Food and Your Mate

Something someone posted in another thread about going from OK to famished in a second got me to thinking.

Maybe it's just me, but?

If I am really busy and concentrating on a task, I tend not to think about eating until later. Keep in mind I love to eat and it shows.

However my sweet wife can go from zero to hungry in 10 seconds flat, and when she is hungry or proclaims she is hungry, it is time to find food, THEN, not in an hour or so. We have actually been going out to dinner in about another 30 mins, and her get hungry and we have to stop and get a snack.

Now I am not complaining, it's really no big deal, and she is so good to me I would go slay a cow with my bare hands if she was hungry. Typically here if Supper is in 30 or 45 mins, we just wait.

Is this a cultural thing or is it just my sweet wife.

For sure not cultural, it happens to me when I get busy and don't think about lunch or whatever, I can be just fine then it's like I hit a wall or whatever, I get the shakes even.... I want to eat NOW!!

My wife is much like that as well.... maybe I caught from her....

is possible she has strange intestinal flora or worms that are keeping her hungry?

suggest a checkup with a specialist.

Then if nothing found, you can rest easy she's not got a medical condition governing her hungriness.

Philippine Meal Times

In the Philippines, it is normal to eat at least 5 meals a day. This is true anywhere you are: in a metropolitan, urban area or in the country.

In addition to the main meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner, there are also light meals in midmorning and mid-afternoon popularly and interchangeably referred to as merienda or snacks, not to mention the occasional chichirias – munchies like nuts, chips and chicharon (pork rind cracklings) - which is eaten anytime, whenever one wants to satisfy his/her cravings for such.

Don't worry about a parasitic situation. It's a common myth that tapeworms (which can grow to a length of 3 meters) will cause hunger. They don't, in fact symptoms of a tapeworm infestation is nausea and abdominal pain, just the opposite of hunger.

People have huge variability in the need for eating. Many of us are like our car's gas tank...we don't need refills often. Others, especially children need to eat frequently (for kids it's because the body cannot store enough glycogen to last many hours).

At home, keep a pot of rice, or use cold rice in the fridge and cook up anything. For trips try rice cakes, cheap--fun, tasty, and/or protein bars. Just rice alone can cause ups and downs in blood sugar triggering hunger, so it's best to have something that has carbs + fats + protein.

Beware of ice cream though, or she might grow and grow and grow....
