Welcome - yes you will have plenty of stuff to pay for! Its a small price to pay to have you loved one with you tho.

We (my now husband and I) did a K1 Visa and he moved to the US in October. High level fees are as follows:

- K1 Application fee - $340

- Police Clearance - est $3000 JA

- Certificate of Non impediment - don't fully remember but it may be between $3000 - $5000 JA

- If he need to get updated documents (such as birth certificates, divorce decrees (if he is divorced), etc.) those things add up as well

- Medical fee - My husband had an equivalent of $300 USD with him. It didn't cost that much because he was already fully immunized. If your fiance needs immunizations it will add up. You should probably ask him to find his immunization record to reduce the amounts of shots he will need because they add up quickly

- Interview fee $240

- Incidentals such as printing and mailing information (I didn't get a chance to give everything to my husband the last time I went to JA before his interview and had to mail stuff - it was a hefty $90 I believe)

- Plane ticket after he gets approved

Once he is in the US:

- You need to get married! There is a fee and prices vary based on your state

- Then you file an AOS which includes green card, biometrics, temp work permit and advance parole $1070

- Incidentals: Remember you have a grown person moving to another country. Our climate here is different and my husband moved to NYC at the end of October so yea you gotta think about clothes, boots, coats, etc.

Filing for a person to move is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot and you need to prepare and when you think you are prepared, prepare again. But it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made because every day I get to wake up next to the man I love and the man that loves me.

Other stuff:

- Passport pictures - He will need plenty I think through K1 (2 on the K1 application, 6 during the interview process) and AOS (6 for AOS) my husband probably used like 14 - 16 pics

- A passport - If he does not have a passport he will need to get one

- If you don't meet the income guidelines you will need a joint sponsor - no real cost but something to think about

That's all I can think of right now

Is this right? And if so, how much is the green card fee and fingerprints?

1) 129F = $340

2)The police fee can be anywhere between $3000 to 5000 JA. The 5000 JA is for expedited I forgot how long it takes to process. Fiance will need to take fingerprints for police cert - I believe this is included in the police cert fee.

3)Medical Fee is anywhere between $25,000-30,000 JA (Varies by location and # of vaccines required - generaly most get 2-3)

4)Fingerprints will be taken at the interview -included with the $240 visa fee, which at this time is paid on the day of the interview. Must be paid in JA so will need to make sure your fiance brings the equivalent.

5)Green card fee is the AOS which is $1070 (fingerprints aka biometrics included with the $1070 fee)

Now don't forget the no impediment certificate another $50-60 US (however paid in JA)

Vaccination record. If your fiance doesn't have his may be a good idea to get a copy so he can take to the medical. Will help with saving some money.

Certified birth certificate through the Registrar General Department in JA - if doesn't have the newer version will need to get one. Its a watermark one vs the hand written form. If I recall correctly the embassy will only accept the newer version.

Passport photos are cheap but you will need a few. You and your will need to submit 2 for the i-129F packet. 2 for the police cert, 2 for the medical, and 2 for the K1 interview. 6 for the AOS packet. (my numbers may be a bit off but know you will need quite a few)

Again, don't forget the travel expenses. If these aren't available in your fiance's town they will need to travel to the larger cities (i.e. mo'bay or kingston) to get these done. For the police cert, no marriage cert and birth cert gotta arrive first thing as a line forms. especially for police cert. All visa applicant I believe are required to get a police cert in Jamaica.

If there was a previous marriage, then your fiance will need to submit a copy of the divorce and and divorce decree. Also, if there are children they will need most of the documents and medical exam as well.

Good luck

Thank u both. But what is the cert of non impediment? I never heard or read of this till now on this site.

My fiance is fully immunized so I guess we will have a medical bill on the lower end of the spectrum.

The certificate of non impediment is obtained from the general registry in Jamaica that essentially says that your fiance is legally able to be married (by the fact that he was never married before) or it will say who he was married to before. If he was married he will need to have a valid divorce decree (decree absolute). In the top banner of this site there is a section called "guides" it gives a good understanding of what documents to file when (so a detail of the documents you need to file with the I-129F (K1 application) and also what documents he will need for his interview).

Its great that he is fully immunized but make sure he has his immunization record to show so. The doctors won't take his word for it.

The cert of non impediment needs to be submitted with the K1 app or when he has the interview? Can I submit a copy (when I get it from him) or do I need to send the original?

From what im seeing all residents of JA have to do this.....man and woman. They take the form along with the police cert to the interview (along with all the other documents initially sent).

Yeah, im sending off my packet later today. I just made sure I knew all the fees for the entire process before hand so we are not hit with any unknown fees at these ridiculous prices.
