Charles, I specifically asked you why you found the idea of a smart gun to be stupid. Posting tid bits from a gun aficionado forum does not answer that question for you. In case you haven't noticed, my exception with your statement is specifically with your use of the word stupid in reference to the idea of a smart gun. The idea itself isn't stupid, and the technology certainly isn't stupid. So what exaclty is stupid about the idea of a smart gun?

Perhaps you meant to say that instituting a smart gun law in it's current state is impractical? That I can understand.

Using the basic definition of the word stupid, no you haven't. Because you dislike something does not make it stupid. Not being able to see that difference or refusing to admit there is a difference is ignorant. Those aren't sticks, those are facts.

I read the link you provided, they see the idea of the smart gun as this: "Markey’s bill is nothing more or less than a bill advocating for handgun prohibition, and is blatantly unconstitutional as a result." That's not a logical or rational conclusion. I was hoping you could help bridge that gap, I see I was mistaken in that regard.

The technology will happen, there's no doubt about that. The problem in instituting it will be the usual stumbling blocks of the NRA and the 2nd amendment. It's too bad because it could save a lot of lives. But as I've come to realize, lives are secondary when it comes to the gun aficionados.

I'm not advocating a mandate as the current technology sits, I simply think that smart guns are a great idea. I'm sure if it ever comes to fruition that there will be certain exempt categories, and rightly so.

They should put more emphasis on completing for sure. Retrofitting, meh, that should be optional. Some folks might opt for it on existing guns, some won't.

What we're forgetting here is that criminals will probably find a way to hack this in a few days. That's the shame of it.
