why note file (for free) the other one,

an EAD tied to the I-485 receipt?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

An OPT EAD can only be extended under specific circumstances - http://www.uscis.gov/archive/archive-news/questions-and-answers-extension-optional-practical-training-program-qualified-students so you would be much better off applying for an EAD with the I-765 as part of her I-485 AOS and then she should have her new EAD card in 60-90 days so you should get that form completed along with the supporting requirements like photos sent in ASAP to avoid the situation I'm in and having to take forced leave without pay.

yup yup - an EAD extension on OPT is only useful for the remainder of duration of the OPT period.

Since it is expiring, the OPT period, a renewal seems unlikely.

But, he wanted to be 'safe', and that's ok too. Untoward, but still ok.

We filed for the work permit Monday. Had I known she hadn't done the change of address I would have been calling them earlier but sat on things because we never got notice. Now that it's filed it's moving along hopefully. We filed to make sure there wouldn't be an interruption on her ability to work.

so, you not file the I-765 with a copy of the I-485 receipt notice, as part of the AOS process?

Ouch.

What's stopping you from doing that?

IMO, it's actually a better 'condition' as it won't expire when her OPT period expires.

so - lets recap -

you made a copy of the I-485 receipt notice,

filled out the I-765 form,

and sent it on to the address in the I-485 notice,

along with a cover letter on what yer doing..

Right?
