Doing an I-130 + I-485 joint filing for stepson (unmarried under 18) of U.S. citizen parent, in the U.S., I-693 already completed.

I don't see anywhere in the instructions that it asks for a copy of the child's foreign passport (only birth certificate).

So is it a problem if said passport has now expired? Where in the process will that come up?

(Unfortunately it will take several months to renew the passport through the local consulate).

They will want to see the passport at interview, but since he cannot travel anyway, it should not be a problem that the passport is expired.
