Hi all Members,

Im from Pakistan and next month im moving to USA, California (i have spouse visa).i did MBA(Marketing) for University of central Punjab in 2009 and now im working with Nishat Textile Mills (Marketing Dept) (2009 to till date).

My question is that, is it enough for me to get a job in USA or i have to do other degree or Diploma form US college or University?

Plz also advise what is the best, easy and fast way to get job in USA? Should i consult with any Job agency or follow job web sites?

Moreover what kind of job i can get with my background education and experience in USA?

I would be very very thanks full to your for your positive reply?

Marketing can be very different in different countries due to cultural differences and laws, so I am not sure how much good your marketing degree will be in the USA. What sort of job are you wanting? I would definitely sign up to some of the bigger job search websites such as Monster and Indeed, and also look on craigslist. Volunteering at a charity can help you gain relevant US based work experience, and a US reference, plus it helps to network.

I agree with Penguin_ie. It would also help if you got your transcripts certified and translated if needed. That would help you and save some time if you decide to do any university or college courses in the US. I would also look at sites like careerbuilder and also see if you can connect with any Marketing groups on LinkedIn to help you with your job search. I would also recommend getting referral letters from your current managers or previous managers. Good Luck!

Each company/HR group is also likely to have their own criteria or consider it in different ways, especially since marketing isn't typically something with government licensing like nursing, legal work or the like. It certainly won't hurt to have a degree from another country and if you're looking for a similar position the job experience will certainly help.

I'd also suggest looking up some sample resumes from people searching for jobs similar to what you're hoping to find. Different contries often consider certain information more relevant and some may even be illegal to ask or mention in the US. Gotta figure out what you need to pass the initial "HR test" so you can interview with people who would actually potentially work directly with you.

There are agencies that certify foreign transcripts. Your U.S. spouse can call some local universities, ask for the department (school, college) of Business Adminstration, and talk with the graduate advisor about who can certify your transcript.

Thinking ahead: Go to this thread:

and read post #17 by Darnell. In fact, print it out. This is brilliant advice. Your spouse can do the research and plan the driving routes now.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
