A Georgia family has hired an attorney and plans to aggressively condemn their local police department following the death of their son.
Christopher Roupe died Friday night after being shot and killed by local police officers. The 17-year-old was enrolled in ROTC at his nearby high school and hoped to join the Marines. Roupe died after police came to his family’s home to serve a warrant to Christopher’s father.
Officers allege that when the boy opened the door, he did so while pointing a handgun at them. Roupe’s family attorney believes that what the boy was actually holding … was a Nintendo Wii controller.
“The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand. He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest,” the Roupe family attorney said.
While it isn’t clear what kind of Wii controller the teen was allegedly holding at the time, a quick Google search shows that there are several modified Wii controllers that do appear in the shape of a handgun.
