When to report for moderation and when not to?

Hello,

I was just wondering if someone could confirm when it is appropriate to report a post, and when it is not.

When I click on the "report" button, it says the feature is only for reporting objectionable content, not for communicating with moderators for other reasons.

I often see posts that are completely off-topic that I might report for just that reason, but I wouldn't call them "objectionable". So are off-topic threads or posts things for which one can use the "report" button, or not, and if not, should anything be done, or is it really up to the moderators combing the forums to simply come across the "bad" thread/post and deal with it appropriately?

You can use the report button to report content in a thread or a PM that you feel is objectionable, violates the Terms of Service, derails the topic, or about which you have a concern whether it is appropriate or not. You can also use the Report button to report posts or threads that are in the wrong forum or contain personally sensitive information that needs to be edited out, merged with duplicate posts that also have answers, to report duplicate posts, to report what might be a site problem that needs attention or to report spam or what appears to be a troll.

Moderators don't 'comb' the forums. We are also members so we read the forums that are of interest to us, and sometimes come across posts or threads that require moderator attention, but generally, we work on the 'report' format. There are just too many posts and too few moderators for us to read every single post and find material that needs attention, so we really do depend on our members to help us out. This is really a collective effort. Visa Journey is here for all of our benefits, so all of us play a role in making sure that the information is accurate and up to date and that the site remains a useful, informative, family-friendly and supportive site.

Please don't 'over use' the report button though - it isn't necessary to report 25 posts because you disagree with what the person has posted or the comment does not require moderator attention. In other words, don't use the report button as a tool to try and 'get back' at someone else.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks! I'll act accordingly from now on.

I would never, but it doesn't hurt to mention it tongue.png
