Hello everyone,

I have several questions regarding above mentioned topic.

Let me first lay out the situation. My Fiancee is a US Permanent Resident. I am a foreigner, a Filipino to be specific, with a multiple entry tourist visa which I got way back when I was still in college. We've been in a relationship for 2 years now. We became a couple even before she went to the US to permanently stay there. I proposed to her last dec 2013 on our 2nd anniversary when i visited her in New York. I came home to the Philippines on January 2014. Our plan right now is for me to go back there in the US and get married then I'll go home to the Philippines. We came up with this idea so that the petition can be filed while we're away from each other.

Here are my questions.

1. Will that be legal to do?

2. Upon arrival in the US, should I tell the immigration officer that i have plans of getting married during my short stay?

3. What are the requirements for getting married in the US? Particularly for a permanent resident marrying a foreigner.

4. Will two weeks be enough for us to process the requirements and get married?

5. Assuming we get married there in my 2 week stay, will it be possible for her to immediately file the i130?

6. Any other things to keep in mind?

I appreciate any help especially from people in the same situation.

Thank you in advance and Godbless!

1. Yes, it's legal to enter the US on a tourist visa to marry and leave the US.

2. No. If you tell the CBP, you might be put on the next plane back home. Don't lie. But you do not have to volunteer information either.

3. It varies in every community. Check with the local courthouse where your fiancee lives. Or you can go to Las Vegas and get marry in an hour.

4. Yes, two weeks is plenty.

5. Yes, she can file as soon as she gets a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

6. Wouldn't it be easier and less risky for her to fly to the Philippines for 2 weeks? Why take the risk that you may not be allowed to enter the US?

Hi blessed!I got married with a green card holder in the US, after this I come back to my country and I'm waiting for case complete.

answers to your questions:

1. It is legal. It is legal if you later return to your own country, if not, for them is a fraud; I must tell you also, this is the shortest route, but not the most correct...actually getting married in US should apply for a visa specifically for this.

2.NO, if you tell you wanna get married they can denied your entry, because think you can enter and remain.

3.For permanent resident just green card, I'm not really sure. For you just a passport.

4.I don't know, maybe depends on the state in which you are located, for me, in Michigan, we do all in 1 day.

5.Yes, you need some documents and after can send I-130.

Thank you both for answering. I do not have plans of staying illegally which confirms my intent to be legal. So its also a big no regarding telling the immigration officer there that i have plans of getting married. Got some follow up questions.

Would it be safe to just say that I wanna visit my fiancee?

For Chantal&Marjo, did your fiancee arrange all the requirements before you went there to get married? Like marriage permit and others? Just want to confirm because I'll be staying just for 2 weeks.

Don't say fiancée. Say girlfriend.

Marriage requirements are local. Have your fiancée look at the requirement in her city.

Really other my passport I didn't need other documents, in the night he ask me to marry him and the after day we get married! But I suggest to you to call the court where you will get married and ask about how quickly you can get married and what documents need, because I think this change by state to state. For savety call since you only have two weeks available. Good Luck

Would you be able to ask him if he prepared a marriage certificate before he asked you to get married? We're planning to get married in Wisconsin.
