Hello All.. First of all I would like to say thank you to each and every member who posts and give their expert opinion on certain subjects on this site, as I have have learnt so much from each and every post. Thank you for sharing your experience.!!

I'm an ex Sri Lankan , naturalized US Citizen thru my marriage of 10 years to a US born citizen. I have been divorced for about an year when I met my fiancee of Sri Lankan origin. My Fiancee is a divorcee as well, finalized in 2009.

My Fiancee had her K1 visa interview at the consulate Colombo Sri Lanka (Jan 9th 2014) and was given a 221(g) stating that everything is in order and a CO will getting touch with her once a final decision has been made. After the interview my Fiancee told me that at the interview she didn't talk much due to the language barrier, and the Visa officer seems to satisfy with all the answers that she gave him. No need to mention that she has been looking at her cellphone for the past 5+ weeks for an answer from the embassy.

I wrote an email and following is the consulate's answer " Thank you for your email. Your case is still pending due to administrative review. Unfortunately, since the process is handled in the U.S, there is nothing we can do until after the processing has been completed. We will contact you as soon as we receive any update on your case.

We hope you find this information helpful in answering your questions"

I'm very nervous that It is taking this long, I must say that even though that She is a Sri Lankan national, she has a very common South American name. What should I do at this point.? What do you think it is going on with this case.? are all internal checks done (within Sri Lanka).? Is there anything I need to be worry about.?

I'm missing her every single awaking min and any advice will be helpful...

You are in AP. It is common, it may even be required for Sri Lankan nationals. Unfortunately, the exact details are classified and the process can take as long as it needs. That can be days, weeks, months. The only thing to do is wait. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

It has been 49 days and yet no answer from the consulate Colombo Sri Lanka on our K1 Visa. This is making me so stressed and having such a hard time keeping my head straight. I have been checking the status on DOS visa status portal and all it is giving me "Administrative Processing" I don't know what to do anymore but wait and wait... Does anyone know if I could find the reason why my case went into the Admin Review.? We are both divorced, and neither of us got any criminal history. This is killing me alive.!!

As I said before my fiancee had her interview on the 9th at 1pm. She went in little early thinking that she was the only one with a 1pm appointment but to her surprise there were about 8+ individuals with the same 1pm interview time. The security let my fiancee in around 1.10pm, and once inside she submitted all the required docs at the main window of the consular section. After few min, they took her fingerprints and gave a piece of paper to fill out with her basic information. (Name, DOB, address ect...)

Again, about 5 min later they called her name into the interviewing "Booth". The consular officer who was in the other side took her completed basic information sheet, and on his hand he had the case file (I 129F) that NVC forward to the embassy.

Questions : How did you and your fiance met.? Is he a US Citizen (I was little surprised about that question) When did he become a US citizen.? where does he live.? Why are you guys getting married in US not in Sri Lanka.? Do you know the name of his ex spouse.? Is she a US Citizen.? Does he have any children.? (I have a daughter) How old is his daughter and what is her name.? Is your fiance and his spouse in good terms.? Does he pay child support & does he visits his daughter or share custody.? What does your fiance do for living.? What is his previous job.? Does he send you money.? (I have no idea about the point of that question) How do you guys communicate.? (We have a magic jack installed at her home and the consular officer had no idea what that was :) )

Questions about my fiancee : How long were you married.? Do you have any children from previous relationships in Sri Lanka.? When was your divorce.?

Then the consular officer asked my fiancee about the evidence of relationship.. (She had Dialog bills, SLT bills and few greeting cards that I have sent her prepared in a separate file as the evidence of relationship) Also, she took a small album filled with pictures of us during my stay in Sri Lanka. Once my fiancee was about to give the consular officer the album, the CO said to show him the pictures thru the glass window. The CO also told her that he got some pictures that I have sent in to the USCIS with the original K1 petition.

Finally after all that, the consular officer kept her passport told my fiancee that there is another process to completing the application, and gave her the form 221(g) marking the line that reads "No need to submit any additional docs and, the Consular section will get in touch with you once a decision has been made" Not to mention as she was leaving the CO told her that she will receive a call "Soon" about the decision.

According to my fiancee the Consular staff were very professional, and attentive. The consular officer who interviewed her was very professional as well, friendly but not overly friendly straight to the point.

That was the whole experience and unfortunately, my fiancee was very very very nervous at the interview and completely forgot few things that she knew very well like the date of her divorce, and my daughters name. In my opinion, my fiancee made a mistake by not talking much at the interview. (Short answers)

my thoughts to you will be to prepare well and organize well. Our case is so genuine, and we knew everything about each other so we didn't put-forth the effort to review (practice) before the interview. I almost felt like we were at a disadvantage as we were both of same national origin.

Hopefully "Administrative Review" will end soon because it is starting to affect my life my job, and our mental health. It is sooo hard to stay away from the ones you love, put our lives on hold indefinitely, and to see them only on a computer screen every night. This has been the hardest 58 days of my life, and I have started to loose my sanity little by little. I wish you guys all the best and hope that the visa process will move smoothly. In my heart I know that the true love prevails.!!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to post and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.!!

Good luck guys.!!

PS : Entire interview took about 20 min.

After 132 long long days, yesterday ( 5-21-2014 ) my fiancee got her passport with the K1 Visa on it. The Embassy returned all the original docs that we submitted along with the sealed envelope to hand over at the POE.

This process has made our relationship stronger than ever before, and we both have learnt well, what it means to be patient.!!
