And hasn't changed any domestic gun laws. Ok, cool. So NRA and pro-gun propaganda spreading fear is to credit with the increase in gun sales. Ok. Scaring people that Obama is going to take away their guns. Even though there are no plans or support for this. So, WHO is responsible for gun sales increasing?

a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes.

b. ban assault weapons? Yes.

c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.

Obama’s campaign said, “Sen. Obama didn’t fill out these state Senate questionnaires--a staffer did--and there are several answers that didn’t reflect his views then or now. He may have jotted some notes on the front page of the questionnaire, but some answers didn’t reflect his views.”

"It's not surprising they get bitter," he said, referring to decades of constrained economic opportunities. "They cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

2000: cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month

Obama sought moderate gun control measures, such as a 2000 bill he cosponsored to limit handgun purchases to one per month (it did not pass). He voted against letting people violate local weapons bans in cases of self-defense, but also voted in2004 to let retired police officers carry concealed handguns.

Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions

Principles that Obama supports on gun issues:
Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons.
Increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms.
Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms.

If he really wanted to push gun control, he would have when they had majority control. He didn't then and he probably won't going forward.

Remember when he announced all the new gun initiatives after the Sandy Hook school shooting and calls for more gun laws during the debates

Gun sales sky rocketed.

I really don't think there is much debate about those facts and all of us have hashed thru it a million times.I laughed it off as "it in my NRA new letter", because I really don't feel like having to prove it again and again.

Now are more guns good or bad? is Obama wrong or right. That is opinion with facts on both sides of the argument.

Why Gun Sales Were High In 2013

Mobile, AL - At this recent gun show in Robertsdale, it’s hard to walk from table to table. Stats tell us people have been buying more guns for the last decade. Last year there were more than half-a-million federal gun background checks in Alabama.

Roughly 15% or one in seven Alabama adults bought a new gun last year. Nationwide, since 2003, Americans bought more guns than the year before. You can see the growth anywhere gun owners gather like this Shriners gun show in Mobile.

It seems that whenever the President talks about guns—sales skyrocket. In the second presidential debate Mr. Obama suggested the need for more gun laws

“Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced,” Obama said in 2012. The fear over what the government might do translates to sales

“I guess with Obama being reelected people were afraid of what laws there might be,” says Mobile Shriners Potentate Lavelle Ollhoft. Across the bay at Gold Mine Pawn in Daphne sales were through the roof last year.

“The most I’ve ever sold in guns since I’ve been in business 30 years selling guns,” says the president of Goldmine Pawn Tom Hand. Hand says he sold three times as many guns last year as he did in 2013. The high gun sales contributed to an ammo shortage still felt today.

“Rifle ammunition and rim fire is very very difficult to get,” says hand.”

The rush on guns this year grew out of the Sandy Hook school shooting in late 2012. The feds report their busiest week for background checks was immediately following Newtown.

“The school shootings, the buzz in congress about changing gun laws that’s what’s behind it,” says gun show promoter Ryan Wells. With higher sales it’s no secret a lot more people are getting conceal carry permits. In Baldwin County alone there was 22% increase in permits from 2012 to last year.

“I'm glad that they’re doing it, someone who comes in and gets a permit they're going to be the law abiding citizen,” says Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Mack. Last year the Alabama legislature like many others in the country expanded gun laws allowing for a streamlined permit process and licenses last up to five year.

“I think it more or less kind of brought attention to what had already been moving around and some circles and some people became concerned about it and some people said it's time for me to go ahead and do this,” says Mack. Tom Gresham hosts a popular gun radio show and fire arms TV shows. I talked to him from Louisiana and he listed some of the reasons people give for becoming gun owners.

“'I just don't feel safe anymore I want to take care of myself' and we also hear 'if they're going to take guns away I want to get mine now,'" says Gresham. He says personal protection is the top concern of new and experienced gun owners.

I tried repeatedly to talk to a pro gun control group like the Brady Campaign, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Violence Policy Center. They would talk via e-mail but none wanted to talk on camera or via webcam.
