I think the range of responses here has been typical of any site with a bunch of parents. The azzhole authoritarian types still live among us.

For sure.

She's an exemplary kindergartner, and all the other stuff parents brag about. But occasionally thinks the entire world is eager to have a conversation with her about Curious George, or hear her renditions of all the songs from Frozen. So sometimes, after wrestling all day long with other people's kids at work, I'd rather let her just be her at home. Lazy mother of monster is lazy.

That doesn't sound like monster to me.

I met a monster recently. A few days ago we went to a kids birthday party at one of those bounce places. One of the boys there, he's 3, couldn't stop punching girls in the face. I was watching him go at it, a little girl would enter the the enclosure he was bouncing in, he'd jump at her and punch her in the face over and over and over again. Most of the girls just cried, some punched back. Then I saw my daughter go towards the same area. She started climbing in and I saw the monster kid notice from the other end. He started jumping his way over. I got closer to the entrance and when the kid was close enough to actually punch my daughter (he was going to), I hit the bouncy floor so he'd fall down. My daughter didn't realize what happened, she went in one direction and the boy just got up, and I tripped him again. And again. And again. Then another girl came in, I let her climb up and get beat.

As for the restaurant, it's their choice who they allow to eat there. People can't demand that they serve kids. But I'm sure they will march down 125th street soon. And if there's a race issue, Sharpton will be leading it.

My brother was apparently a handful at 5. He's now a well-adjusted, well-behaved, 45-year-old archaeologist.

I was a monster at 5 and no one ever knew if one of my tantrums was going to make an outing a nightmare. I am now a reasonably well-adjusted, well-behaved woman of unspecified age.

My parents did know how to control us. Often it was by removing us from the situation, which was a punishment unto itself. But you know, sometimes they just did not want to deal with having to discipline us in public, or did not want to be subject to the glares of others, so we ate at home. Good behaviour at home led to more opportunities to eat out at family-friendly establishments. A combination of growing up and good discipline resulted in children who were relatively pleasant to be taken out. Our parents did not ever fear us, but they did find having to deal with calming us down a pain in the behind.

Nice attack on sandinista, her daughter and her parenting style.

Sure, his village. He's not from my village. It's a tribal thing.

Oooh, naughty.

Once I was walking by a playground and I saw these two 4-year olds hitting eachother, they were making a big scene. I did not see a parent around; they were probably sitting on the other side of the playground. My gut reaction was to shout, "Hey! Stop hitting eachother!" And the kids stopped dead and then ran over to me and started blubbering and pleading their respective cases. A bunch of little kid "but but but, mumble mumble." It was like both of them were absolutely desperate for parenting. They wanted help in their conflict and attention and someone to listen to them. I listened for a bit, but I didn't have time to sort it all out, so I told them "Well, I am sorry, but you have to play nice." I hope that helped at least for a while.

So, you never know, you could have helped that bully smile.png
