her fiance cme last week. Someone told her to apply for a work permit at her nearest social security office.

Is the fees for the work permit included in the AOS?

The Social Security office does no take applications for work permits.

If you want help, you might want to answer the questions from people trying to help. If you don't provide necessary information, there is no way to give you good answers.

Is your friend a USC or LPR? How did her fiancé enter the US?

If you don't want to answer these questions, then don't expect to get good answers.

My friend is a USC. Her fiancé came using the k1

The Fiance needs to do this...

Get married within 90 days of entering

Apply for Adjustment of Status (form I-485), also concurrently file for Employment Authorization (form I-765), and Advance Parole (travel permit) (form I-131)...These three things are a total of $1080.00

You cannot get a work permit at Social Security, and also you need to make sure they marry within 90 days or they will be sent back to their home country.

so she needs to send the forms I-485, I-765, I-131 in a single package with a $1080 fee?

Yes, and there are other instructions as well...Be sure to go through them carefully.

There is a check list on this website of what to send.

It took me a week to put it together perfectly and I re-read each document and photo copied each document as well for my own record.

I don't know everything off hand but there is A LOT to it, and if you're not going exactly by the directions you're likely to receive a Request for Evidence which can hold up the application even more.

Typical approval of a work permit is 2-3months, and a green card is anywhere from 4 months - 1 year.

Good luck to your friend.

The fee is actually $1070. Do not send the incorrect amount or your application will be rejected. http://www.uscis.gov/i-485
