Depends what do you mean by high school in Pakistan. Has he cleared his Matriculation or College (1yr and 2nd yr)? If has done A levels then they are recognized here in most universities in the US.

If he wants to go to college then it improves his chances of gaining admission. It overcomes the possibility of his high school exam transcripts or records not being recognized by the college he wants to attend. He won't have to pay to have them translated like what usually happens.

I strenuously disagree that a GED increases chances of college admission. A GED is not as good as a HS degree. If there is any concern that his foreign degree was not up to US HS standards, then he should have his degree evaluated. People more familiar with the Pakistan school system will have more information.

Someone above mentions A-levels. Is Pak school like UK school?

Harps..I think I didn't state it correctly in saying it improves his chances because a high school diploma holds more worth than a GED, but as is usually the case a lot of US schools do not recognize most foreign high school diplomas (and University transcripts) and to use them, one has to have them evaluated or translated by a body in charge of such evaluations as you rightly said. It sometimes makes sense in just taking the GED as it's more cheaper..albeit time consuming though..than the evaluation. But I believe on the whole it might be better having it evaluated. It's takes a while to get the evaluations back but it works.

Check out the local community colleges.

Most community colleges have simple admission requirements. In CA, a person only needs to be over age 18.

Your husband probably does not need a GED to enroll in his local community college.

After he gets his AA at the community college, he can apply to transfer to a 4 years university.
