I was curious and figured I would ask here....

With AP... can it only be used for an emergency?

Can it be used for just general travel?

Also... on a side note... after K-1 and getting married and handing in Adjustment of Status stuff... can me and my future wife travel to US Territories such as Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands? Either with or without advanced parole?

Or K-1 Visa Journey:


- November 9th, 2013 : Sent I-129f package (FedEx)


- November 15th, 2013: Check was Cashed


- November 15th, 2013: NOA1 e-mail notification (TSC) smile.png


- November 21st, 2013: NOA1 Hard Copy arrived. (Official Notification Date - Nov 14th)


- November 21st, 2013: Alien Registration Number Changed


- February 7th, 2014: NOA2 received by text & email!! (85 days from NOA1 to NOA2) dancin5hr.gif heart.gif


- February 13th, 2014 (14th in Philippines...Happy Valentine's Day Surprise Babe!!rose.gif heart.gif ): I-129F shipped to Dept. of State to receive visa #


- February 14th, 2014: NOA2 hardcopy received.... Happy Valentine's Day!


- February 21st, 2014: NVC assigns visa number. Can now schedule online, interview for fiance at US Embassy


- February 24th, 2014: Now have interview date!! (May 5, 2014 @ 7:30 am)


- February 25th, 2014 (26th in Philippines): Fiance finished medical exam & vaccinations (all in one early & long day) @ St. Luke's & passed


- February 25th, 2014 (26th in Philippines): US Embassy - Manila (USEM) receives our case & is READY for interview


- February 26th, 2014 (26th in Philippines): Able to reschedule for a March 12th interview date! Whoo Hoo!!


- March 12th, 2014 (11th in US): Fiance interviews @ US Embassy....... APPROVED!!! YEA BABE!!idea9dv.gif dancin5hr.gif biggrin.png kicking.gif

AP is used so you can leave the US and be able to return. Its not just for emergencies, however if an emergency situation comes up, you want to be prepared. So its always best to file for your AP (along with EAD) at the same time as your AOS application.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Yes you can travel within the U.S with or without AP.

K1 (I-129F) petition filed in August 2013 (Approved Feb 20th 2014)
13th May 2014: AOS (I-485) & EAD/AP combo card
21st May 2014: NOA 1 and biometric letter
11th June 2014: biometric appointment
13th June 2014: RFE received via mail
16th June 2014: replied to RFE
6th August 2014: EAD Approved, AP still in initial review
12th August 2014: got tracking number for EAD
( ) August 2014: Received EAD (I forgot what date I got them but I did receive them less than 5 days from the 12th)
10th September 2014: Interview Waiver received (I wished I was interviewed)
April 23, 2015, we registered your permanent resident status and mailed you a Welcome Notice

Hi guys.I want to travel outside US back to Philippines to attend my brother's wedding in May. I'm currently pending with my AOS filed last JAnuary and biometrics scheduled this coming Feb.27. Just want to ask u guys what will i put in Part 4 for purpose for AP. Is it alright if i put brother's wedding? And is it alright to stay in the phils. for 14 days? Thank u guys!

AP is good for entering the USA, doesn't have to be an emergency.

General travel, to other foreign countries? Doesn't affect where you go, it for entering the USA. As for foreign countries, Canada required a visa for my wife to go there before she got her green card... so be aware of the requirements for travel.

You didn't file the I-131 with your I-485 (it's free to file when doing it at that time, same for the I-765) ?

Here is what my wife put in section 4:

"I would like to be able to fly back to the Philippines and then return home here in Tucson, AZ."

There should be no issue with staying for a couple weeks then flying back to the USA.

All paperworks filed except for I131 because i have no plan to go back in Philippines that time. But now i am planning because my brother's wedding is on May 10 and i want to attend for the big event. Filing for AP still free while AOS still pending.

So ur wife doesnt encountered any issues when she flew back in US using AP? Thanks
