Hello,

My husband has his interview in about 2 weeks at the US Embassy in New Delhi. I plan on attending with him and we have a few questions about what to bring and what not to bring.

1. Will we be allowed to bring cell phones, purses, and/or wallets into the embassy?

2. What about bags, backpacks, or briefcases? We have two binders full of evidence and photos. We can carry these in our arms but it would be easier if we had a bag.

Thanks!

I am the petitioner.

Wife had her interview on Feb3rd at Mumbai and i believe the security regulations should be the same at New Delhi as well. Please see the link below for permitted/not permitted items.

Personal Experience:

They don't allow backpacks but allow transparent folders and folders like these http://www.staples.com/Smead-Embossed-Poly-Expanding-File-13-Pocket-Letter-Size-Blue-Black/product_811574. Wife had a transparent folder(For holding PCC, Medicals, I/L, DS260 confirmation with OFC center stamp) and also the expanding folder with all the evidence.

Make sure you don't carry cell phones, Car keys(Especially ones with remote). They do allow a small purse but make sure you don't carry anything metallic (just to be safe).

Important: Please make sure your husband gets his fingerprint done at the OFC center before the VISA interview at the consulate and make sure the DS260 confirmation page has the stamp from the OFC center. I saw couple of IV applicants who did not get their fingerprints done at OFC and were not let inside the consulate.

Goodluck.

Also, if you mistakenly pack a "forbidden" item, nothing to worry about so much. They will inspect/metal detect your purse before you go in. I forgot that I had nail clippers in my purse. They saw it on the screen and told me to put it in the free locker along with my phone. Worst case scenario is that you hold up the line a bit.

But, yeah, no backpacks. My husband brought along 1 binder in a plastic shopping bag! (How much paper are you taking with you that you need a backpack?! LOL)
