Item No. 30 of the DS-230 form says, "List below all the places you have lived for at least six months since reaching the age of 16..." I turned 16 in April, 2001 (04-2001). Should I write this date on the From/To field of the form even if I started living with a specific address at an earlier date (04-1985)?

On the DS-260 you must list the exact address of every place you have lived for any period of time from age 16 on. (This includes any ppstal codes etc...) Start from the day you turned 16 even if you were already living somewhere. There can be no gaps in addresses.

The ds-230 is no longer used. When you are at the NVC you will now use the online ds-260 and there is no signature needed.

So the beginning date should be the day I turned 16 and not the day I was born, right?

Not exactly. The "beginning" address will be the one where you lived on your 16th birthday, but the start date for that address will be whatever date you began living there. For some, that will be the date of their birth. For others it might be a month or so before they turned 16 or anytime in between. Just answer the question being asked. When did you start living at that address. Once you've listed enough addresses to get back to or past age 16, you stop. For some, that could be one address. For others, it could be many.

I'm asking you about this, as in reading regularly on these forums in the last several months, I could swear I've seen it said that you 'start' with age 16, and that you could get a checklist if you use, say, your birthdate. (Considering that it would be highly likely for many people that where they lived at age 16 is also where they lived since an early age or birth)

Have I misinterpreted something? Will you get a checklist if you use a date prior to your 16th birthday or not?

The question asks for the date you began living at an address. You answer accurately. If the day you started living at an address was before your 16th birthday, fine. You will not get a checklist for answering a question accurately. I gave you examples. Some people have lived at the same address their entire lives. In that case the start date of their current address is their date of birth. To enter the 16th birthday would not be accurate. Answer the question being asked and answer it accurately.

Does the question not ask . "List below all the places you have lived for at least six months SINCE reaching the age of 16..." They don't care about before. I'm with Lakehouse on this one. Put in your 16th birthday and go from there. And yes people DO get checklists for putting in there dates from birth or from before there 16th birthday.

That's not a question. It's an instruction. So, you would be wrong. In each space for an address, you are ASKED for the start date of living there. If you had six addresses since age 16, you would put actual start dates on five. Why would you depart from that for the oldest address? Answer, you don't. Put the actual start date for EVERY address whether it one address or ten or more addresses.

Read carefully, interpret literally and answer accurately, each question asked.
