Hi guys, I just want to clarify about when can you petition your parents? I am on my N400 journey right now and planning to pettion my mom after my application is done. The question is, is there a timeframe when I can start my petition? Do I have to wait for years to be able to petition my parents? Any thoughts/knowledge will be appreciated.

Will they be working when they get here?

It will take about one year for them to receive the visa at the current rate petitions are being processed. You will need to pay for her health insurance as it is now a requirement under the ACA.

Hi belinda63, I am also on my N400 journey now and would like to petition my mother who is the Philippines once I am naturalized. When and how do I prove that I can/will pay for her health insurance once she is here in the US? Also, please let me know if the following are the requirements to start the process:

1. Fill out form I-130

2. Copy of my NSO birth certificate

3.Copy of my Marriage Cert (showing that my name changed)

4.Copy of my Naturalization Certificate

Thank you very much.

Follow the guides at the top. As to the health insurance, it is now required for all US citizens and LPRs to have health insurance. It is up to the interviewing officer to determine if you need to show proof of obtaining it or not. I realize the ACA is new to everyone but there is a fine if you do not obtain health insurance. This is just something to keep in mind when petitioning a person who will not work.

$1000 a month per person give or take for passable cover.

HI

not now with the i130, that will be at the NVC stage when you will file the i864 affidavit of support as petitioner and your husband will file the i864A as the household member

hi

check the i864P for poverty guidelines

www.uscis.gov/forms and find the i864P

you qualify for filing for your parents because you are a USC, but you might not be able to financially earn over the 125% poverty guideline, that's where joint sponsors and co-sponsors come in
