Overturning the ban on retail gun stores and private gun sales was the last major hurdle gun rights groups faced in their hard-fought battle to dismantle Chicago's tough firearm prohibitions.

The latest court ruling in the long legal fight came one day after Illinois, the last state to approve a concealed carry law, began accepting applications from residents who want to carry concealed firearms in public.

But gun shops won't likely be showing up in Chicago any time soon, since Chang delayed his ruling from taking effect to allow the city time to appeal ...

Fellow Golden Staters, don't rush for your CC permit just yet. It's almost certain that the county will call for review of the decision, in which case the entire 9th Circuit Court will hear it en banc, instead of just the 3 judge panel in this decision. In its 11-member entirety, the 9th Circuit leans more liberal than the panel (2 conservative, 1 liberal) in this decision. Furthermore, I understand that the decision was limited to the San Diego Sheriff's policy, and was specifically not extended to ruling on the constitutionality of any California law (though I base this on someone else's reading of the decision, not my own). It will be interesting to see how this develops, because the split in Circuit decisions on this matter seems to be forcing the issue to the Supreme Court.
