My fiance has just done the medical exam. She's in Belarus and has to go to Poland for her interview, but her passport doesn't have enough time before it expires to get the Polish visa or meet the requirements for time remaining for the interview(8 months in both cases).

I've read that it's important that the D-160 be filled out with the passport she'll use to come to the US(her new passport), but what about the medical exam? Will it still be valid since it used the old passport number?

This whole process is terribly confusing, and I can't find an answer to this question anywhere.

My best guess is that she should get the new passport but ask to have the expired one returned to her (or to keep it). Then when she goes for the interview, take both with her to avoid confusion and to prove that despite the new passport, she's the same person.

We had this same issue. My fiancee had to renew her passport during the application process, so half the paperwork had the old passport number and half had the new one. She explained the issue at her interview and I don't believe it was a problem.
