Hey, everyone!

First time poster.

First of all, let me say that I love this site and it's been SUPER helpful while we've been going through our fiancee visa process.

My question is about the I-134.

I was recently laid off and luckily got a job shortly after, but I am bartending at a restaurant so I don't have a steady income on paper that I can submit. Do you have any suggestions what I should do? My fiancee and I are worrying ourselves sick over whether or not they're going to deny us because I can't prove that I make enough to support her.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you make enough to meet the poverty threshold 125%? If so, I would try to get a letter from your employer stating your expected annual income (base salary, tips, etc.) and submit it with the I-134.

If I remember correctly, the USEM will accept co-sponsors for I-134.

Ok so I think I posted this in the wrong place so I'm re-posting here...

Expect to submit tax info with 134. Tax transcripts for example.

Find out if your embassy will allow cosponsors.

Seek second job.

Unfortunately from what I've read, the Manila embassy in the Philippines does not allow co-sponsors.

I've just realized that I made a typo in my original reply. No, they will NOT accept co-sponsors.

Also, I submitted last year's tax return, but the years before that I was in the military serving in a tax free zone, so I was exempt from taxes. I told my fiancee to tell them that was why we didn't have the past 3 years. I mailed her a letter stating that I was working in the kitchen, making $11/hr. That was before they moved me to bartending. Should I amend that? I will be switching between kitchen work and bartending.

Actually USEM does allow co-sponsors, however it is rare.

I read that the rare occasion is if the benificiary is a student. I am not. I dismissed the idea of getting a cosponsor and decided to give it a go on my own. I guess my main moral issue is that I found out that I won't be working as a cook the entire time so I feel like I'm lying but I mailed her my I-134 before I found out. Should Ieave it the way it was or amend it?

Just leave it as is. While you are right in that its best to not expect a co-sponsor to be accepted, it is not because you are not a student. Co-sponsors can be accepted on rare occasions, and its really up to the CO depending on your circumstances if they would accept one or not.

Duplicate threads on the same topic have been merged together and moved from the Philippines Regional forum and the K-1 Visa Progress Report forum to the K-1 Visa Process & Procedures forum as the most appropriate location for this discussion.

While the topic is asking a question about the process in the Philippines, it is about the K-1 process and we wish to keep all K-1 process questions together in the K-1 forum for the sake of continuity and accessibility.

When I was first married I had just graduated and was not working more than one day a week that year. MY parents co-sponsered with me when I was filing for my wife in the Philippines. I'm not sure if things have changed since 2008, but it worked for me.

Here we go again with a "useless debate" regarding joint/co-sponsors regarding the USEM. Co/Joint sponsors are allowed! If the poster stating that Co/Joint sponsors are not allowed I would ask that poster to cite an instance, embassy statement or policy stating such. It has been my experience that if a petitioner that has a co/joint sponsor(s) is denied it is because of issues/problems about he petitioner and not the co/joint sponsor(s). For example, I have read instances of petitioner(s) having his parents as co-sponsor(s) and have read instances of elderly men using their child(ren) as co-sponsor(s) and all have been approved. So, I do take a pesonal issue with anyone stating that Co/Joint sponsor(s) are not allowed at the USEM without providing a citation, reference, or statement from the USEM stating that co/joint sponsor(s) are not allowed.

If the OP feels the need for a co/joint sponsore I encourage them to take that path. I would only ask that the OP make sure that there arre not any issues or potential problem(s) with himself that would put the petition in question.
