You were required to present a Letter of Compliance when you imported your car. US Border Customs would have completed the required paperwork while you were there and that with the Letter of Compliance would be submitted to the DMV. If you didn't get the paperwork then you will have to take your vehicle across the border and re-enter. It can be any border (US Canada or US Mexico). Make sure you own your car 100% (no car loans) and you will need to have owned your car for one year before you can bring it in duty free.

Can be completed at an International airport as well I do believe

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Therefore, I would not have to cross the border with my car? Cause I can't leave right now.

Therefore......you goto an airport in the USA......When I say International airport, it means an airport accepting international flights, not the small city airports

There are actually 3 forms, see this thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/473317-driving-through-boarder-with-k-1-visa/

You don't have to cross the border to visit the CBP, they have parking that is accessible via a side road, usually the last exit before the border. Check your favorite map website on how to access it.

We have a car that our son is using in the USA now. We plan to import it within the next month. We went to the US border crossing and spoke to customs. They told us they had to see the car and it had to physically leave the country and then re-enter (no we could not park it on the US side and walk in to declare it - we did ask) .

But who knows...they all seem to work independently.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'll call and see what I can find out and I will post what I find for anyone who has this problem in the future.

And thanks flames9_RN for confirming what an international airport is. After flying between the US and Canada numerous times during the span of my relationship I had no idea!

I guess it's tough luck that if someone can't register their car because they didn't import it correctly. Considering we have CBP at Centennial Airport as well as DIA, I can see the value in your advice.
