Have any of you experienced situation like this in Havana? Our interview was on Jan 21st. We gave all completed documents and evidences nothing was missing. After the interview the only thing they can say was my fiance need to get a new police report, his report was done in August but still not expired and after they look through the documents they will call him in two weeks. At the mean time they gave us paper saying bring requested police report on 29th of Jan. My fiance went the 29th and gave a new police report, at that time they also took his passport and they gave him a paper saying he can go back on Feb 2nd to check his status, when we looked at the date on the calender, the 2nd was on Sunday and they do not even work on Sunday's so my fiance went on Monday the 3rd of Feb. At that time they gave him another paper saying he can go back Feb 12th which is today to check his status. But today they gave him back his passport and told him they will call him when the process is done. I checked the visa status, it says it is ready for interview. It has been saying that since we made appointment for interview 5 months ago. Isn't suppose to say it is under PA? although they didn't tell us it is under PA. I do not know what it means by we will check on things and will call you in two weeks? and today they didn't say when they will call my fiance but he was told to wait till they call him. Please share your experiences if you went through the same process.

I do not see we missed anything, I think we many even gave more docs than needed. The only thing I can think of is that they might think it is wired for two people from different planets to fall in love LOL. Obviously, I'm not Cuban or Cuban origin. But, in our eyes love does not have boundaries. I wish all people get a chance to experience love so they can understand. The process has been frustrating as we both want to be together as soon as possible. I know you all VJ people understand the frustration. I appreciate if you can share your experiences in the similar situation. Thank you All

If they returned his passport it is not a good sign, as far as I know. Someone can stand corrected me about this though. Most of times people on Vj were denied when US consulates returned a passport of applicant.

Hi Girl from Celebes, thanks for the input, but what you said is not true most of the cases. They do give back the passport when people go through AP. The confusing part to me is that them telling us will call you in two weeks now after three weeks later they told my fiance they will give him a call when process is done and at this time we do not know when they going to call. My guess is that the consulate man we did the interview with might have left the office, the reason I'm saying this is that he was training another man and I wonder if he has left and left our case with somebody else.

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Embassy/Consulate forum -- topic involves that phase. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

A similar thing happened to my fiance. At the interview they told us that the visa had been approved but that they wanted him to submit his CV. He brought the CV the next day and they told him that he could come back in a week to check the status. When he returned a week later, they told him that the case was under review. However, they never returned his passport to him. The visa was finally approved about 45 days later.

My (now) husband and I agree that it's a not a good sign if they gave him back the passport. But you never know. I also don't think it has anything to do with a change in officers handling the case. Our interviewer was also training another person but I don't think that it had anything do with putting our case under administrative review/processing.

Good luck!

Thank you Sarah, at the day the interview they didn't keep his passport. When he went to submit his police record he didn't talk with the consulate, but somebody else in the office took his passport. Somebody who had the same experience told me that they didn't keep the passport during AP time. She told me they gave her the passport after the interview and told her they will call her, she didn't know when they going to call and she went home crying. But after 5 weeks later they called her and told her to bring her passport to get her visa. I'm not worried about them returning the passport, but when I check the visa status on the website it says READY FOR INTERVIEW. It doesn't say it is under AP, that is the most confusing part of it. As far as AP goes we both nothing to worry about as we have clear records and all we provide is based on truth. The most frustrating thing is that we can not able to plane our wedding, we don't when he is going get the visa, everything is on the air at this time. But, I know he is going to get the visa after all. We just have to patient.

Happy Valentines day to you all!!! I wish my valentine was with me today!

Don't worry about what the system says. They are not very good about updating it. Ours never changed until the visa was approved. If the wait is more than 30 days, I would contact your congressperson/senator to have them inquire on your behalf.

I know the wait is difficult. We had to change our plans completely but in the end, it all worked out. Good luck and happy valentine's day to you too!
