Mohammed is finally here and sound asleep. I had one final scare at the airport. We waitedd as the plane emptied and no Mohammed. I was heartsick and went downstairs to the information counter to ask how to check on his whereabouts. She suggested paging him but I didn't hold much hope he was there. My youngest son and I wandered around baggage claim in case I missed him, and when I turned to walk back to the information counter, there he was talking to the woman. I went RUNNING calling his name and just as he turned I jumped on him. He said I scared him half to death until he realized it was me. Ha ha. I couldnt stop touching him and I swear until the day I die I will NEVER forget the look in his eyes. If I could have taken a picture of that AOS would be a breeze because there was nothing left to question.

JFK immigration was absolutely brutal with him. He was questioned almost 3 hours by several different people. He tried to tell me about it but just stopped short. He looked at me with such fear in his eyes it makes me want to scream. "Will they make me leave again?" They put a real mind f**k on him, and did a very good job. He said he feels so at home here, like he belongs. He found everyone to be very nice, everyone he met was helpful and kind (outside of immigration) and he was very amazed at how clean and quiet everything is. But he is overflowing with fear. When he fell asleep he had ahold of my hand so tight I couldnt' get it free.

You know, I understand the job immigration has to do, but I wonder if they ever stop think that some of their tactics can really mess people up. I know Mohammed. He's going to worry now every day of his life that they will send him away again. Its not right.

But finally after all these long months, and drama, and and and... I get to go pick up his dirty socks. Whee!

ohhh Jean, im sorry Moh had to go thru that, but alhumdullah, he is here, and do your best to ensure him, america is not scary, and that the scary stuff is over, ensure him that that is just the immigration officers jobs, there is now way he can be deported when he has a valid visa! give him a day or two, take him out, show him around, and he will love it!
