Hi everyone,

I am newbie here. My fiance and I are going thru K-1 processing. He is a US airforce personnel. Is there anyone who knows what my fiance needs to do about marrying to a foreign national, especially being a military personnel?? Does he need to get some kind of permission from his commander to state that he is allowed to marry to a foreigner? My fiance has been asking around, yet got nothing. And what's more, he is now depolyed in South Korea, and will be flied to Japan in June about. In such case, what we should do would be the best? We planned to get legal marriage papers done in the States ASAP I get my visa.

Thanks for your help !!!!

In regards to getting permission, I'm not sure.

You're applying for k1 visa right? But he's moving to japan later this year. How are you planning to do this? Both fly to America to get married then then both move to Japan? Sorry I'm really confused. It seems like a lot of work. It'd be easier if you guys got married then he petitioned for a spouse visa instead. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done with the k1 visa after you get married

We filed I-129F when he was still in the States. And as to getting married where he is stationed, I am not sure about it,but if we could, that would be the best, so we dont have to fly to the States.

He needs to get a no objection to marry letter. Ask his chief or commander for assistance. Thats what my husband did.

He was even sort of reprimanded for not going through his commander.

Should we get the letter before the visa processing or is it fine to get it before we get the legal marriage papers?

We needed a "Permission for marriage" stating the present marital status and address issued by the Commander which wasn't because I was a foreign national but because it was requested by the office where we got married!

Thank you sooo much guys.good.gifsmile.png .I really appriciate your responses. And for now, I guess I will ask my fiance to get a permit from his commander just in case. I am really upset at the delay of the visa though. It's been 4 months since my interview....crying.gifcrying.gif

For our case, my husband talked to his commander and didn't really get any sort of letter.

Your fiance will have to ask his commander. Or even his first shirt. Or anyone in his squadron who has a foreign wife. They will know best. :) Good luck!!!

My husband never asked permission, he just informed them of his plans.. We ended up fine. Better to ask his CO anyway. :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png
