YOU KNOW THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A SILLY QUESTION

But what the best way to arrange the return flight with your fiancé on the plane back to the petitioners home country? If I book a flight to Phil in march for instance I have to have a return flight but it will be with my fiancé so how is this done the best way? And I assume that the 2 week wait is solid you can rely on the visa being at the goPickup location in 2 weeks or is that a shot in the dark? My plans are to go there in march and be there about 4 days before her interview, then return to her town have a party do some packing and pick up the visa in 2 weeks at the GOdropbox location and get on the plane and go back to the USA? Does anyone have some good advice on how to go about this so that we are sitting together on the return and when do I buy the ticket..

I would change my plans to arrive in the PI after she gets the visa and have the party and then return with her to the US. You can go before the interview to be with her and spend some time together and HOPE that the visa is ready before you have to leave, but do not make any travel plans for her until she has the visa. There are no guarantees in this process except that it will take time. If you have the time, extend your stay to 20 days or get a visa and stay longer--until she gets her visa. I would expect to be traveling back to the US alone and then be surprised if the visa arrives in time.

Good luck,

Dave

Never make plans until the visa is in your hand. Please everyone read this and heed this advise.

What I plan on doing is going there right before her interview and waiting there with her until she receives the visa ... I hear it can take about a week or maybe 9 days to receive it I have up to 3 weeks to wait its ok gives us time to go to the beach, but I was concerned how to get her seat next to mine on a return flight ?

That's the easy part. You either go to the check-in counter together and see if there are any seat left together or you go on-line and reserve the seats. You do realize that she has to go thru a class before she can leave the PI? I still say you are cutting it very close and the two of you may end up of different flights--I hope I am wrong.

Good luck,

Dave

one way tickets are way more expensive than round trip tickets so I suggest you just buy your ticket as a round trip to Philippines and then buy your wife a round trip to America but then obviously don't use the return ticket

Please be certain to cancel the return portion of her ticket as there have been a few cases where the airlines do not remove the traveler from the manifest and the USCIS sees that the person has left the country. Then you get to prove that you did not leave the country. Much easier to spend the few minutes to cancel and get a cancellation number to keep for you records.

Good luck,

Dave

Cam54, that hasn't been my experience at all with 1 way tickets compared to round trip pricing. Speaking specifically about PHI you'll run about 1100 round-trip to Chicago or 800 for one-way. Fully refundable one-way tickets can be much more expensive. Every now and then you get a strange circumstance where the round trip for a small segment is more expensive but rarely.

OP:

You could purchase your round-trip ticket and then if the timing looks good, purchase her ticket for the same flights. If you go mid-week return the cost shouldn't be that much higher and typically seating is more available. From there use the online check-in tool of the airline a few days beforehand and select seats that are available and next to each other. Most major carriers offer something similar for pre-checkin. Typically there will still be a couple of seats together and you can snag something not in the middle. If this isn't available or all seats show as booked but you have the tickets, just arrive at the airport before the majority of passengers check in and confirm there.

Also make sure you sign her up for a frequent flyer program and get this first international segment(s) counted. Lots of people forget that despite it being 100% free.

The safe way to do this is of course to purchase your return tickets together but that'd cost a bit more and you still have to show an ongoing ticket when you arrive.

that's a US domestic flight though, honestly international flights are ridiculously more expensive for one way than round trip. average round trip UK to LAX is $900 whereas average price for one way is $3000

ORD to MNL and MNL to ORD are about the same.

Looks like there are some oddities with the UK. I can get LAX > LHR for 500$ one way but the other direction it seems to hover around $800 with BA pegged at about 2K. Odd.. buyer beware I guess.
