Hello everyone! I’m newly registered to this site but I’ve been visiting this site constantly since March 2014 after I have submitted my AOS package. I want to thank all the members of VISAJOURNEY for all your posts. Reading everybody’s experiences and comments really helped me through my AOS journey. Here is my experience:

I had my interview on May 21, 2014 at 10:00am at Federal Plaza, NY. Me and my husband got there at 9:20am but waited in the longest line from outside the building to get inside through security for about 40minutes. *ANYONE scheduled for interview at Federal Plaza try to get there 2hours before your appointment!* So we checked in at the 8th floor AOS office at 10:04am. The office wasn’t that crowded. There were 2 couples already being interviewed when we got there. The husband and wife were interviewed separately it seemed. Another couple were called inside the double doors together. Around 10:35am, my name was called by the IO and we were told to go through the double doors and he will meet us there. As soon as we got in the doors we walked all the way to the back to the IO’s private office. Soon as we walked in his office, before we even sat down he told us to raise our right hands and do the oath. We sat down and saw a thick paper, which was my AOS package. First thing he asked was if we both speak English and we said Yes. Then he asked for any forms of identification from both of us. We both gave him our driver’s licenses. Then he asked for most recent proof of address with both our names on it. I asked if the May 2014 ConEd bill was okay. He said as long as it has both our names on it and our current address and if it was after March (the month my application was received) it was okay.

First part of the interview, he asked my husband (petitioner) a few basic questions:

· What’s your wife’s name?

· What’s your wife’s DOB?

· What’s the current address where you live together?

· How did you meet?

· What are her parents’ names?

· What does your wife do?

· Where does she work?

·

Then he turned to me and asked me the Yes/No I-485 questions which I answered NO to everything.

He started asking me basic information about my husband:

· What’s your husband,s name?

· What’s your husband’s DOB?

· Where does your husband work?

· What was his previous job title?

· When did he leave his previous job?

· Who was at your wedding?

Initially, the IO seemed very serious and strict. He was standing up and quickly going through my whole application while asking us all these questions. When he finished going through the application he finally sat down and asked if we had any pictures to show him. I hurriedly grabbed the photo album that I made a few days ago specifically for this interview. It has about 160 pictures of us from the year we met in 2008 til present. I wrote the description of each picture on the side. He went through each picture and read each description til the last page and made comments on some pictures. After that, he asked if he could take some of the pictures. I said he could take everything he needs. He took 3 pictures: one from the wedding, one with my husband’s family and the last one was our picture from Valentine’s day.

The fourth part of the interview, he said “I will ask you both some random questions. There is no right or wrong answer. I just want to know how well you know each other.” He proceeded by asking us random questions like:

· What’s your husband’s favorite sports?

· What’s your husband’s favorite food?

· Why did your wife come here in the United States?

· Where did you celebrate Mother’s Day?

· When was the last time you went out on a date?

After this, the interview became informal, the IO started sharing his personal stories and we had our shares of laughs with him. The interview concluded when the IO said “Well, it looks like you both know each other very well so you Passed! We will mail your card on Wednesday.” He then explained the ROC process. And asked if we had any questions. We stood up, shook his hands and thanked him so many times. He lead us out the office and shook our hands again and said Goodluck!

Overall, the interview lasted about 20mins. It was a great experience, thanks to the IO that interviewed us.

I am overjoyed and grateful that I will finally receive my greencard! Thankful to God and to everybody here who shared their experiences and helped me kept calm and sane because I know I wasn’t alone in this journey.

Goodluck to everyone else in this AOS journey!

Wow congrats!

Me and my wife do not have joint bank account cuz we prefer to be financially separate. Hope that will not be a big issue.

It will probably only be an issue if you have nothing else in both your names. Do you have both names on a mortgage/rental agreement/car insurance or anything similar? If not then you might get some raised eyebrows.

My interview in 4 days.

What is the best to wear for this interview, not a suit right? (For all those who have done the interview)

Dress as if you are going to court or to a job interview. My husband wore dress pants, a button down shirt, and dress shoes. I wore a dress, a cardigan, and 1.5 inch heels. I believe that your appearance is important and can have an impact on how you are viewed as a couple. Our interview was last Monday. There were some couples there in jeans, short skirts, and midriff baring shirts-very inappropriate.

Agreed! The IO can be totally influenced by your appearance and preparation. Even if it's the mere fact that you both decided to dress up, which simply tells the IO you both are communicating. We dressed up and it went smoothly. I agree with you 100% because it is a real interview.

I also agree with those that say to make the effort to wear something nice. My husband and I both appeared to our interview in business suit attire. I saw way too many people wearing clothing that was more appropriate for a picnic! You want to impress upon them that you are taking this interview seriously.

I interviewed last Tuesday at 1pm, and I got a text message and e-mail about 5 minutes after the interview that my case is in document/card production. I also got two emails and texts later that evening that both my 130 and 485's were approved. I got the NOA2's this past Saturday. It seems, however, that most people have been getting an additional text/email that their card has been mailed a few days after their case is approved. Today is a week and I still haven't gotten that text. I'm assuming the memorial day weekend might have slowed down production as people probably were getting on with their trips. Any thoughts for those who are familiar with this stage? I want to drive to Montreal on Thursday, so I am literally checking my mail everyday so I can go book our hotel rooms. Talk about cutting it close! Haha

Hey everyone!

Hope y'all are doing well with your processes and interview preparation.

Just chiming in to say I've been working for about a month now, my wife has completed her training so she's making much more money in a much less stressful work environment, and we are applying for apartments right now until we can get my green card, save and move out west.

It's been a little over 2 months since my AOS went to "Testing and Interview" and with the Atlanta timelines, most people have waited 4 months before getting their interview date. Therefore, 2 more months to go!

AOS:

Good luck Erica! I hope you get your date before the 4 month wait. That's a long time.
