No, but mine is a somewhat unusual case. My former SO was married before she met me, and she never wanted to get married again. I loved her, so I went along with that. She died after we were together 20 years. How's that for commitment without marriage?

And in and of itself doesn't that prove by example that one doesn't have to be married to be committed?

It only proves to me that in one case the couple didn't have to be married to be committed, but I believe it's the exception rather than the rule.

Yes, of course, but some have insisted if szsz concede something she clearly is not going to, this would be over, and that isn't why this has escalated, IMO. I think she argued dirty, and thus the explosion.

Hedonism is a clinical term. Some take it negatively, some don't. As far as being committed or not, I stated my opinion. I am in no way responsible for how anyone reacts to them. Well without getting into details I'll just say that she was an unusual person which was what shaped our relationship. Really, I'm not going to get into trying to prove that it was an unusual relationship, but it was.

I don't see it as a sign of weakness. Of course there are differing views; that's clear and true of all things. There are lots of differing views here, since that is so, why am I the only one being asked to concede?

It's kind of interesting to me...in my paradigm and life experience, the type of relationship Gary is describing as an exception has always been the rule. Perspective makes the difference sometimes.
