A few months ago I posted on here trying to find out what visa my fiancé and I needed to get his US citizenship with our wedding being in April. I believe the CR-1 is what we need since he's Norweigan and has a us work and tourist visa that allows him to come and go pretty freely. However we were just informed his work contract is terminated and he needs to begin looking for new employment ASAP and we were wondering what the fastest way is to get his citizenship so he doesn't have to go back to work in Norway, but rather can stay with me here. What's the timeline for the CR-1? And is there any faster options???

Lots of confusion in your post, for instance, your fiance is not going to get citizenship any time soon.

Answer me this: Where are you, where is he?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Citizenship is a long way away.

File is papers now for either a fiancé visa or a spousal visa. If there was a faster way, we'd all do it

good luck

I realize it may sound funny to ask this because I am sure everyone wants the fastest possible route to citizenship but the desperation of asking is just an illustration of how devastating the news was to us and it changes a lot of things for us, so any understanding and compassion would be greatly appreciated right now.

I live in the states, in Texas. He still has a residence in Norway but spends most of his time here with me still being within his tourist visa rights. Then we both work offshore together in US waters and he does that on a work visa.

After we get married can we just file an AOS? Or can we only do that by first processing a CR-1? How long does the cr-1 take? And I guess citizenship isn't as urgent but just a legal status to apply for US employment. I guess that would be as a permanent resident? How long does that status take once paperwork has been started?

Thanks guys

Coming to the US with intentions of marrying and adjusting status is visa fraud.

Start the paperwork for an immigrant visa (if married) or a K1 if not

good luck

You are mightily confused.

First, he is not getting US citizenship. That's another process that happens way down the line.

Second, it will take about 12-18 months to get him an immigration visa. This process leads to a green card.

There is no way for your boyfriend to come now (unless you want to break a few laws and take the risks).

In my opinion the CR-1 is the best thing to do, get married to ur boyfriend and since u can visit him, do so, until ur filing comes thru. atleast u will hv lots of evidence u been together. I believe doing the K-1 would want to seem as if becuz his work visa is over he is doing a hurried up thing. Hey u never know..mayb USCIS and NVC will start to pick up paste and do better.

What visa does he exactly has ? If it's C/D, apart from fraud piece of it, he can't adjust status from those. It is just not physically possible.

They guy is on a tourist visa.

Marry him now and file the i130. Send him back to Norway. He will undergo consular processing there for the visa. Once he immigrated, he can legally work in the US.

He will qualify for citizenship after 3 years of being your husband and a permanent resident.

I think this OP has been here before and everyone advised them that going the CR1 route was best so as not to interrupt his working, which would happen if he tried to AOS off of being a tourist or as a K1.
