I'm gonna have my naturalization test next month and I have 1 question..if I pass does that mean that I'm gonna lose my Brazilian citizenship?

Since 9 June 1994, acquisition of another country's citizenship should not cause loss of Brazilian citizenship.

Dual citizenship been permitted in Brazil without restrictions since 1994. However, all Brazilian citizens must enter and leave Brazil on a Brazilian Passport.

If you pass the naturalization interview you still a Brazilian citizen, however when you do your oath taking as a US Citizen then you no longer a Brazilian citizen. At the moment that you pass your interview exam and not yet naturalized you are still a Brazilian. You can have your Brazilian citizen if you apply for dual. Goodluck!

No, you do not automatically lose Brazilian citizenship when you become a US citizen, nor do you need to apply for dual citizenship.

Timeline:

2005-04-14: met online

2005-09-03: met in person

2007-02-26: filed for K-1

2007-03-19: K-1 approved

2007-06-11: K-1 in hand

2007-07-03: arrived in USA

2007-07-21: got married, yay!

2007-07-28: applied for green card

2008-02-19: conditional green card in hand

2010-01-05: applied for removal of conditions

2010-06-14: 10-year green card in hand

2013-11-19: applied for US citizenship

2014-02-10: became a US citizen

2014-02-22: applied for US passport

2014-03-14: received US passport

No, you do not automatically lose Brazilian citizenship when you become a US citizen, nor do you need to apply for dual citizenship.

Philippine Citizens required to apply for dual citizenship if they want to remain a Citizen of the Philippines after they get their U.S. Citizenship.
