Hi there!

I'm leaving for the U.S on March 20th and i was wondering when i could open a bank account?

Do i need my SSN? Or can i open it without it?

Because if i can't open it before having my SSN it means not before 1 year??

Thx in advance for your help!!

Edwige

A SSN is not a "requirement" for opening a bank account. Proof of identity is. That said, some banks will refuse to open an account without a SSN. They have the discretion to decide who gets an account and who doesn't (within certain limits.) You can try multiple banks and ask to speak with a manager if you are refused.
