I-797C Rejection Notice, Or Not?

Hello All!

I am a USC petitioning for my husband! Today I got a letter in the mail stating, "Recently, you submitted an application for immigration benefits. That form was submitted with an extra remittance that is not required to process your application. Your check is being returned to you with this notice. No additional action by you is required at this time." They only sent the notice with the check stapled to it, a green form to include when the application is resubmitted, a copy of the form G-1145 I submitted, and a copy of the USPS receipt from my application package. They did NOT send back my entire application- what does that mean?

I submitted two money orders made out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the amount of $88 each. I was told this was required by a USCIS handler, but now understand it IS NOT as were were filing IN the US (I also understand a few people have made the same mistake!)
I called the USCIS customer service line but they couldn't tell me anything other than that it doesn't make sense why it was rejected. They transferred me to a tier two agent, but to be honest he talked in circles! I sent an email to lockboxsupport@dhs.gov but haven't heard back. Does anyone have experience with this?? What does it mean? (I did NOT get a receipt notice on the I-797C)

I've attached the I-797C and money order(s)
Thanks everyone!

Which forms were you submitting, for which process? I understand they weren't returned to you, but what forms did you send originally?

The Adjustment of Status costs $1070, I have no idea where you're getting $88 from at all? The $1070 is the application fee plus biometrics combined.

N400 filed September 14, 2023, same day acceptance and Biometric Reuse notice, Interview on 2/13/24: Passed and same day oath. ALL DONE WITH USCIS.

Absolutely! Sorry, was in a bit of a panic mode!

We sent in:

Two money orders for the I-485 (there was a max of $1000 on money orders)-$985 and the $85 for the Biometric Service Fee
Two money orders of $88 each for the two I-864s (We were told it was needed, but just found out it WAS NOT!)
3 x G-325A, I-765, I-131, and a G-1145 (Plus all evidence.)

We were filing AOS. As stated only the two money orders of $88, and the E-Notification (copy of) were returned.

Looks like they just sent back the things they don't need for your application... The application should be going ahead just fine, if that's what you're asking.

Yes, that was exactly what I was asking! Thank you! It worried us obviously because the NOA said one thing, and then the dreaded green paper said another.

The call handler did not help AT ALL. He said, and I quote, "Because there is no receipt number, you are not in our system. I can't find you. Your application was rejected. Resubmit everything." I then asked if we'd have a number either way, and he said, "Yes, you would"

-_- These people talk in circles!

Thanks again, I just didn't know if I had to resubmit anything!
