Grammar and spelling were not the same thing, when I was a boy.

But, one had to spell properly to fit the right bits o Grammar.

You're right, and because I'm a writer I have to deal with it everyday. For example, a few years ago Al Gore invented the Internet, which still is a proper noun, but also changing. Then, someone named it the World Wide Web, and made it a proper noun. It was abbreviated "WWW". Then, there were Web sites (two words), which was always written that way. Now, because the strict grammarians lost the battle, it was deemed ok that 'website' is acceptable; by who, who knows. And calling it web for short is also ok. I did miss the memo on when Grammatical was changed to a proper noun. Do you have a copy of that?
