Q: Traveling outside the US - Conditional Green Card

My wife recently applied to remove the conditional GC, and she received a NOA saying that they were processing her documents, and she could continuing working and traveling outside the US for another year.

However, when we returned back last week from a vacation to Mexico, at the Seattle airport, the Office there said we needed to have some kind of GC stamp in her passport, even though I explained to him the NOA says that my wife's status for employment and travel were extended fir a year. He would not listen and made us go to a separate interview room, where another office checked to make sure everything was ok. After checking on the system and asking my wife a few questions about me, which took about 30 mins, he said we were free to go.

Is this normal? on the NOA, there was no mention of needing a GC stamp in the passport, so curious why the first officer asked for it.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the first officer was unaccustomed to the process, perhaps. I wouldn't worry about it - you'd done the right thing, carrying the expired GC (I assume) and NOA1 for RoC to show the 1 year extension. If that hadn't been right, they wouldn't have let her in. ;) Just an inconvenience to your day to have to go to secondary.

Yes, we had carried the expired GC, but when I showed the NOA1 to the Officer and explained it clearly stated my wife could travel or work for another year, he started to talk about how the form could be photocopied, etc, etc, even though it was the original one, and that we needed some kind of stamp in the passport. So was wondering we need to do this to avoid any problems with future travel

I believe you can get a stamp put in via an INFOPASS appointment.
