Obamacare - Public charge?

Me and my husband are looking up healthcare insurance on healthcare.gov. When looking up my immigration status and eligibility etc, I saw this;

If you check this box and are applying for help paying for health coverage, your information will only be used for determining access to health coverage through the Marketplace.

If you check this box and aren’t applying for help paying for health coverage, your information will only be used for determining access to health coverage in the Marketplace and won’t be used for immigration enforcement purposes. Also, use of health care services through the Marketplace won’t be considered to be a public charge.

So does that mean if I get health insurance through Obamacare, it will go against me and it will be considered a public charge? Does anyone have any advice how this works? I don't want anything that could be used against me in the future.

No, buying health insurance or subsidy is not considered a public charge. Pit obamacare or ACA in the search tool here on VJ and there are several topics which address this and detail how it works (and doesn't work) with regards to immigrants.

Public Charge: In general, applying for health insurance coverage through Covered California and receiving help to pay for a Covered California health plan or receiving low- or no-cost coverage through Medi-Cal, will not make an individual a “public charge” – it will not affect your immigration status, chances of becoming a lawful permanent resident, or becoming a naturalized citizen. The exceptions are if the individual receives long-term care in a nursing home or other facility paid for by the government, or does not tell the truth on the application.

In my opinion your state might be the same but for sure go check at www.healthcare.gov

I know this post is old but very helpful. My husband applied for health insurance at coveredca. He is eligible for Medi-Cal and when he was doing his application he checked the box that he is the only applying for health insurance and not me. Now when I checked the status of his application, it says that we are both approved for Medi-cal even though he told them that I am not applying. My AOS is still pending and I hope it being eligible for Medi-Cal won'y affect my application
