You seem to have forgotten that the Republican party's platform recently included a bunch of rhetoric about how job creators were the best and deserved to have lower taxes than normal workers. You seem to have forgotten the Republican idea of trickle-down economics. You seem to forget that Republicans are blocking efforts to increase the minimum wage.

No need to be condescending and call me "my dear."

It's not condescending, it's just the way I talk. Welcome to the south. We also call each other sweetie, darling, sweetheart, babe, dear, etc. Sorry if you were offended.

I know nothing of what you speak above, so I didn't forget it. I just apply what my dad and pappy taught me... an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. And a lot of sweat, blood and tears typically yields things that are worth having. Politics be DAMMED!!

TBH, I haven't done a price comparison in several years. When I did, it was between a Honda Accord V-6 and a HAV-6 Hybrid. I had the gas V-6, my neighbor had the hybrid. He paid around $8K more than me, and when we compared mileages after 3 months, it was going to take him 7 or 8 years to make up that 8K difference before he realized a profit.

Not to be mean-spirited, but you'd have to keep some real accurate data to prove the "1,000s in gas". Compare your 51MPG to a Corolla's 30MPG. Now compare your $24K to $17K.

At $3.10 per gallon, you'd have to drive 165,000 miles before the Prius broke even.

Not mean spirited at all. I have no idea how much I have saved to be honest. But it has to be 1000's. I guess it depends over what.

You got to factor in residual value also.

I know another conservative mid aged guy that drives a Prius. He has an hour commute each way everyday.

I'm sure they're out there, but for some odd reason, electric vehicles haven't gone over too well with Right Wingers - at least not the environmental angle to it. Even saving money on fuel has not traditionally been popular among the Right, who tend to buy bigger, less fuel efficient cars.

What is it about this thread that makes people try to turn EVERYTHING into a political issue? Everyone I know who drives a Prius is a conservative. One couple has two Prii.

Next thing you know, I will be labeled as a leftie or a rightie based on the fiber content of my toilet paper...

After this winter, there is no way in hell I'm buying another goddamn compact sedan. My Elantra and my neighbor's Civic have been next to useless. We have a "compact SUV" (as opposed to a real SUV) which has conducted itself admirably in this weather. When it's time to replace the Korean rice burner, I think I'm looking at another SUV.

Anything with AWD tends to do pretty well.

When I drive up hill through half a foot of snow (before they plough), will a Prius AWD cut through it like an SUV can? I got stuck twice this year in my Elantra. Had to get out and shovel on the freaking road.

I could always quit and find a new job in NYC and train to work, then I can get a greeny car AND take mass transit to work, the hippy chicks will be lining up to suck my ####.

As long as it doesn't bottom out, it should.

+1 Subarus are great in the snow. From a pick-up POV, a Honda Ridgeline rocks for driving on ice as well. (lower ground clearance than many trucks though)

I have an S-60 AWD and it does well in the small amounts of snow we have here. It came from NJ so it prob used to be AJ's
