I saw what they did there. Trying to pitch a Green car to Right Wingers. Kind of like Coca-Cola pitching coke to Leftists with their kumbaya-like commercial. Clever marketing.

The electric car angle was so subtle they could only see 'the American dream'...

I am a right wing person and I proudly drive a Prius

There goes that theory

I drive mine because it saves big money in GAS. not because I want to project an image

See how conservatives roll

I know another conservative mid aged guy that drives a Prius. He has an hour commute each way everyday.

That's just it. When green becomes an economically viable solution it will be adapted. I am rolling about 45-50 MPG. I love it

I got a big NRA sticker on the back so no one will think I am a tree hugger

Some people on this forum think that if they vote Republican, they will turn rich.

I assume you are speaking for yourself (since you are the only one who can speak for your thinks). Me? I believe if I work hard, I will have enough for me and my family.

P.S. Political leaning has nothing to do with earnings...

Republicans work to pay people peanuts so the CEOs can increase their profit.

Are you for real??? Why are you trying to make a business decision made by a CEO out to be a political thing? Regardless of political leanings, any CEO is out to do one thing... make a profit. Increase income, reduce expenditures. And when things get tight... reducing may mean firing someone or paying them less. Even a democratic CEO will seek to maximize profits. Only a fool wouldn't.

You normally make pretty good sense. But with this one, you sound like someone from the...

I have a coupla friends who drive Prii. Great concept, but the thousands extra they paid to get to drive a green car seemed not worth it to me. Perhaps one day, when prices come down enough. But when it takes 7 years just to break even on fuel savings vs. purchase price, I don't see the point.

I paid about 24K for mine new. I have already saved 1000's in gas. I don't think they are out of line with any other car.About the same as the Camry. Still worth about 18K after driving 3 years.

Yes, let's lay off people while the CEO takes helicopter rides to and from work and parties on yachts. That did happen, remember the bailout?

Profit is not the only marker for a good business. Let's say I run a business and I sell pencils. I pay my workers $1. Someone else sells pencils, pays their workers 50¢, and their profit is more than mine. Does that make their company better? No, it just makes more money for their owner.

seems all the best workers would go to pencil maker A and pencil maker B would not have nearly the efficiency as maker A, unless A is over paying for the economy , then he is not a good business person

And that, my dear, is the difference between someone who wants to make more money and someone who wants to take care of their employees. It has nothing to do with politics.

Wal-Mart started out that way, but now... I think the BLUF profit is what runs the conglomerate. Sam would never have had it this way...

You seem to have forgotten that the Republican party's platform recently included a bunch of rhetoric about how job creators were the best and deserved to have lower taxes than normal workers. You seem to have forgotten the Republican idea of trickle-down economics. You seem to forget that Republicans are blocking efforts to increase the minimum wage.

No need to be condescending and call me "my dear."

TBH, I haven't done a price comparison in several years. When I did, it was between a Honda Accord V-6 and a HAV-6 Hybrid. I had the gas V-6, my neighbor had the hybrid. He paid around $8K more than me, and when we compared mileages after 3 months, it was going to take him 7 or 8 years to make up that 8K difference before he realized a profit.

Not to be mean-spirited, but you'd have to keep some real accurate data to prove the "1,000s in gas". Compare your 51MPG to a Corolla's 30MPG. Now compare your $24K to $17K.

At $3.10 per gallon, you'd have to drive 165,000 miles before the Prius broke even.
