Hello:

My wife, who is from Sweden, does not currently have a drivers license or healthcare coverage. She has never driven a car before nor had a license in her home country. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Are you required to take drivers ed school or because she is an adult she is not required? Also, has anyone had experience with healthcare.gov? I imagine she will get insurance once she starts working later this year and I already missed the cut off to add her on mine. We need to move quickly with an option as she will need to get refills on her medications in the next month or so. Thank you for any advice or personal experiences in these matters! Much appreciated!

I don't know of any state that requires drivers education/school. My wife had never drove before, once she received her EAD card she took the written test and got her permit, few months later she took the driver's test and now has her license.

I don't know all the crazy rules for healthcare.gov ... good luck with that one. Miss the cut-off for adding a recent spouse? That is a new one on me.

Rules for driving license vary by state. What state are you in? Look at your state's DMV (or equivalent) website to find out the rules.

On healthcare, you may find that getting married, or your wife arriving in the US, counts as a major life change, so you can add her to your policy. Or is this the "cut-off" you're referring to?
