good website, but i dont think he gave 1080p the credit it deserves. Cuz i consider it more of an investment, because soon media will be powerful enough to be fully supported by 1080p. I just cant wait to get that tv. just got 2 weeks to go! Im planning to buy a ps3 also. So i will be able to play blu-rays. :)

I just got my HDTV a few days ago! 55 inch sony 1080p. We love it. It is actually better than a movie theatre. We also got a Toshiba HD DVD Player and we watched King Kong and the picture was absolutely unreal. You could actually see individual hairs in beards. We have it hooked up through optical to the 5.1 surround sound and it rumbles the walls. Im sure the neighbors are gonna love me. The HD DVD player also upconverts standard DVDs to 1080p resolution and they look near-HD.

Timeline

My set took a dump a month and a half ago. I had to watch the playoffs in SD. I was waiting for my tax return to have it repaired but then they gave me the news that the tube was shot and it would be $1500 to repair. Talk about HD Madness!

So, I ordered a 51" Samsung DLP 1080P although it doesn't have the true 1920 by 1080 res. The price was too good to pass up.

that really sux, We got the 4 year replacement plan from best buy with our tv. they even matched the price on Amazon for the TV. I thought i would really need the replacement plan cuz the Tv will be in storage for 6 months while im in Iraq and the plan covers almost everything, including weather damage.

Hmmm.

Whenever we move we will probably be getting some sort of new entertainment system.

I just have one question...does the TV really HAVE to be THAT big for a ' visually orgasmic experience' - LOL.

As a woman I'm here to tell you that size really DOESN'T matter. hahaha

And besides, I never like the looks of those humongous TV's in a house. Wouldn't something a BIT smaller work just as well and be cheaper?

Seriously, I think the sound quality is a BIGGO part of home theater. HD on a decent size screen with emphasis on the sound system makes more sense to me, and might be more aesthetically pleasing in your family room.....

Just my two cents.

He did say 40" though. I don't really think that's too big.

You don't? Hmm.

Well I don't really know a lot about today's new systems. Too me that just seems like a lot of TV.

40 wasn't big enough for me. We recently redid our living room and started with a big screen entertainment center and then asked for the largest television that would fit in it  It's a Mitsubishi 65". I think it looked pretty good once we added the rest of the furniture too.
