HD madness!

Ok so im giving in and going HD. Through much sweet talking and persuasion of the wife, shes decided to let me get an HDTV instead of saving for a car or something else useful.

Now ive learned that it wont be good for sh!t unless i watch the HD broadcasted programs. But my question is with the DVDs. Does anyone have a dvd player with the HDMI input, that upconverts dvds to 1080p? Im getting one and i wanna know how it looks on the HDTVs.

I know it will look better when i get a blu-ray, or hd dvd player, but i am wondering if using the HDMI input on a dvd player will make regular dvds look better.

I feel like a young boy again, i am so excited. The set up is gonna be a 40 inch Sony bravia LCD 1080p HDTV, with a sony 2.1 home theatre with HDMI input. A visually orgasmic experience.

Don't go blu ray...HD DVD is the way to go. Blu Ray will be the new Beta Max.

Will your new DVD player have progressive scan? Also, you'll want to get an optical cable for your home theatre sound system.

The 'tv-instead-of-a-car' thing kinda confuses me, but hey...best of luck getting what ya want.

He's bringing the movies to him, hence the lack of need for a new vehicle.

That 1992 Geo Metro will last a little longer, I'm sure.

well ps3 has blu ray... so ill see how it goes.

yeah it will be a progressive scan

Im also stuck between getting a bose 3 2 1 or a sony home theatre. Bose definetely has the edge with sound. But bose isnt HDMI compatible. So the dvd player with the bose will just be a paperweight.

How much can you spend on the sound system? I'd go Bose over a Sony, regardless. Sony's products are mostly rebadges.

My suggestion is go shopping. Look at everything in every electronic store. Find the system that matches your needs, the money you have to spend and buy it on the internet. The last part will save you money. I did this with my home theater system a few years back and I saved 200. going this route.

Bose does deliver superior sound but if they don't have everything that you want, then you may have to look at something else. Contact Bose customer service and ask them some questions...

I dont think that matter if the dvd player is HDMI or not.. It may have a better picture but the HDMI Cable carries both Video and audio on the same cable. thus no need for the audio cables. If the DVD player is Pro. Scan and you set it up right it will be better. you are skipping out of good sound vs. HDMI. Bose is a great for audio.

It is the speakers that make up the sound experince not the HDMI. You can get cheap stereo components and spend most of it on the speakers, it will still sound Great.

also like mrc said get optical cable for the sound.. It will be awesome :)

Take care

thanks for all the advice... The whole thing is pretty new to me. But ive spent about 7 hours researching it online.

Ive decided for sure that the TV i want is the sony 40 inch bravia V- series 1080p. As for home theater, im getting a 2.1 home theater in a box philips. It has hdmi input for upconverting to 1080i. Its also progressive scan. It doesnt have optical cable input, though.

But, if im using the HDMI from my HDTV to the system, wouldnt that eliminate the need for an optical hookup?

I have a dumb question for you. How many HDMI inputs does that tv have?

Also do you have CABLE or Sat. If you have Sat. Think about going back to cable cause Cable has better picture then sat.

Get a DVR box if you get Cable :)
