Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

We call them "PT Losers"

I am happy with my current vehicle. I bought a Ford Fusion about 3 months ago.

1DET07.jpg

Mine is just like that, same color but I've tinted it and added a spoiler to it. It's a great ride...I enjoy driving it.

Did you compare it's performance to Toyota or Honda? Those two companies consistly make reliable cars in the compact range that I don't see how anyone would buy anything less.

Yes, it ranked higher than the Camry and Sonata both by JD Powers and Car and Driver. It was just below the Accord according to the Car and Driver but higher than Accord according to JD Powers. It has gotten great ratings since its inception. This is a mid-size sedan range...Sonata, Camry, Accord are in its class.

That's because it's Japanese engineering...

The new Fusion is built on a slightly stretched version of the very competent Mazda 6 platform. Ford owns a good portion of Mazda and shares a number of components including engines and transmissions with the Japanese company.

Yeah, because the Americans could never build a nice vehicle. Cmon, Steven.

Your right mrc in a way..... They build nice vehicles..hey even I want a new Charger RT... but they don't build reliable ones.. considering when you put them up to Toyota's or Honda's... Check your Comsumer Reports...for the reliablity...don't use JD Power...they are bought and paid for..

It's pretty clear...on which cars last longer.. well past your last payment..

Now back on Topic...

When the PT's first came out..I did like the looks..same for the Chevy's HHR both cars are designed for the baby boomer..because it reminds us of cars from our youth.. .. I'm sure most of the younger people don't get it with these cars...but us older..baby boomers...do.. Now of course I wouldn't buy one.. until they have been on the market for at least two years..so they can work the bugs outta them... But I read Consumers Reports on both...and like I said before...I prefer riding to walking... because as much as I hate it...with what we americans are building at the moment..You will be walking or calling a tow truck sooner then later.. It's a shame.. because we could build better more reliable vehicles..

I had to get that off my chest.

PT Cruisers are poorly engineered. I'd never buy a Dodge/Chrysler after seeing some of the engineering nightmares they produce. For example, to get to the battery in a Sebring, you have to remove the front passenger side tire because the battery is behind the wheel. That's ridiculous. Another example would be a lot of the later model Dodge trucks. In some, you have to replace the whole fuel pump assembly (200+ just for the part) in order to change the fuel filter.

i have a 1500 Hemi and it is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Several of my friends have PTs and they love them.

This is my second Ford. I had the first one for six years. I bought it brand new and never had to replace anything on it outside of a wear item (tires, brakes, oil). I had it in upstate New York too where the weather is pretty rough on vehicles. We put 120K on it and eventually sold it to buy a new Jetta in 98. I had significantly more problems with that Jetta than I did the Ford...including my brake master cylinder going out with less than 20K on the vehicle. Talk about scary...I was on the freeway at the time it lost pressure. I don't buy American cars aren't reliable...maybe 25 years ago, but not this day and age.

I'm always glad to hear success story's on American made Cars and Trucks... I keep thinking..Ahhhh they are getting it together..

I think for trucks.. Dodge is starting to catch Ford in Most Trucks Sold..

Plus I want to see the New Hemi... Is it real Hemi or is it ..simi-hemi... I forget the term for the simi-hemi heads... but a real Hemi..Has the spark plugs down the middle of the head.. like the 392's..and 426's... Not to mention some of the Desoto earlier hemi's like the 354ci..Twin 4-barrels.. in a family 4 dr. sedan.. but of course gas was only .25 per gallon

The PT does have it's followers..look at the PT convention pic posted earlier..

Now we know where your loyalties lie, Steven, you effing traitor.

I did buy a brand new IROC in 1987 Yellow...Now that car could handle... And the Bee's sure loved it..

Did they ever come out with a 2 dr. PT ?

I just remembered some guy here was trying to either change the pluggs or air filter I forget which in his PT...and he just gave up..

I looked at the engine compartment...WOW it's cramped in there.. I remember working on a 58 and 57 chevy's..and some 72 Chevy Pickups.. and you could climb in there and sit on the engine if you needed to..

I actual adjusted solid lifters in 57 chevy with a 327 took all of 30 min.. probably take you that long just to take the valve cover off the PT

Never? No, but American automakers overall, fell behind German and Japanese automakers long ago and still haven't caught up. Why? Different business philosophy. German and Japanese automakers have a tradition of wanting to make cars that are reliable - that last. Their track record speaks for itself.

eeeyyyyah...like buying a Ford or Chevy means it's manufactured in American anymore. Secondly, Japan now has plants here in the states. Where the company originates no longer makes any difference. Look at all the mergers as well - Dalmer-Chrysler, Ford owns most of Mazda, etc. What am I betraying by not buying Ford or Chevy?

GM now offers a five-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty with no deductible.

When a car hits the 100,000 mile mark, it's a good idea to retire it and get a new one

whether it's American or Japanese.
