You can buy a one way ticket, but you need to buy an exiting ticket also, just find a cheap airfare from the Philipppines to another country that you don't mind tossing/canceling. Then when you are ready to return buy your one way ticket for you and your wife.

Ahhh.... you usually have a visa when you fly with a one way ticket, more facts emerge.

how a bout some ideas from a guy that has been going to the PI since 1986?

first contrary to most of the above posts

Fact: you ARE required to have a return ticket upon entering the Phils,,,,,,you MAY sneak around this BUT I seriously doubt any

carrier will let you on the plane in the USA without a return ticket,,feel free to try it but do so at your own risk

I dont understand why some of you feel the need to be with your fiancee at the interview then hang out in the Phils for 3 weeks or so until her CFO and visa are completed

your incurring thousands more in costs,,,for what? my girl did it on her own,,and traveled to the USA by herself,,it was a rewarding experience for her and I saved thousands.

but hey,,whatever works for ya

Fact? I think not... your opinion? Yup.

Here is fact:

The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles wishes to inform the public of a directive from the Philippine Bureau of Immigration that pursuant to Section 29(a)(17) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended, foreign nationals arriving to the Philippines who are admissible under Section 9(a) (temporary visitor’s visa) or under Executive Order 408 with the exception of Balikbayans, but do not have valid return or onward tickets, shall be automatically excluded or will not be allowed entry into the country.

http://www.philippineslosangeles.org/news/2636/597/EXCLUSION-OF-TEMPORARY-VISITORS-WITH-NO-RETURN-OUTBOUND-TICKETS/d,phildet/

"For years the law of the Philippines has been that a foreigner traveling to the Philippines must have proof of “onward travel” in their possession in order to board a flight to the Philippines. Recently this has come up in the news here in the Philippines … some airlines have been fined for allowing travelers to board flights without an onward travel ticket. The reports I heard all seemed to give the idea this was anew requirement, but it has been on the books for at least 10 years that I know of."

I am guessing you plan to fly out of LAX/SFO and this is your first time traveling on a one-way ticket to PI. You will most definitely be asked at LAX/SFO airport by the airline rep when you check in for your flight for your onward/departing ticket, as you have presented a one way ticket for travel.

Since you do not have one, you would be inadmissible to enter Philippines. it is the airlines responsibility that passengers comply with the entry requirements of their destination. You will be asked to purchase a return ticket on the spot, or be denied check in. In this case, buy a totally refundable departing ticket from MNL to somewhere in SE Asia (ex: HKG, BKK, KUL, SIN) and cancel it after you get to PI. Online check in does not skip the step of an airline rep verifying your passport and documents.

Should they not be paying attention when you check in stateside, and you make it all the way to NAIA and then get asked for a return ticket at Immigration, this is now a problem. The check in, departure desks and ticket sales are all upstairs, and being inadmissible, among other technicalities, you won't be allowed past Immigration to buy one for yourself. Nice.

They will nicely take you to a holding room and, eventually either send you back on your airline's next flight out the following day, or if you are lucky, someone will escort you upstairs, after the ticket counters open, and you can buy any ticket leaving the country within 30 days (you will be on Day 2 at this point).

Expedia is not an airline and are Kings of Misinformation.

I would advise leaving the K1 paperwork out of all conversations. CFO, Travel Tax, Interrogations, Tea Money, Offloading, etc. Do not forget they they are very resentful when their people leave the country for a better life with a kano. This will not expedite your situation, and will probably cause more delays out of jealousy and spite.

In any case, good luck.

My fiancée's interview is on Feb 27th. I have booked a one way ticket to Manila (cost me $500) and I will book our return flight once we have the visa in hand. I have never heard of anyone having trouble getting into Philippines with a one way ticket. I have been there 3 times and they never checked my ticket. I did call Expedia too and they told me no problems with a one way ticket. If they do ask me about it, I will just show them my K-1 paper work, interview confirmation and explain that I am going home with my fiancée once we have our visa.

Yeah after doing some research on Google I decided to just buy our return tickets now. I bought them for March 14th. If I have to change the date it will cost me $100 per ticket but that is fine. I saved about $400 booking the tickets now as opposed to 1 week in advance.

On my two trips to the Philippines they never asked to see RT itinerary, but they do check your passport when you leave to make sure your stay don't go past 21 days...and you have to pay a fee if you do unless you have a visa.

I do think you can change flights on Philippine Airlines for a fee ($100-$150) if you book it directly on their site vs expedia, hotwire, etc...but I'd check with them first to be sure. That airline is my preference as they have direct flts to/from LAX every day. http://www1.philippineairlines.com/

Op if you have anxiety in having one way ticket only since you want flexible time. I suggest you book your one way to ticket to manila in one ticket. Then book your tentative return flight on the day you will be leaving FOR manila in expedia.com or travelocity then cancel it or have it voided upon arrival in manila. You will get your money back if it was already posted or of it was not posted, all the better. However you must not exceed the allowed stay here in PI.

Then you can book your ticket together with yout family.

Philippine Airlines and Narita. I just flew back to the US from Manila on Jan 7 and changed planes in Narita. My connecting flight was on AA. When I tried to go to connecting flights, they (Japanese Customs) told me that the boarding pass that was printed in Manila by Philippine Airlines would not be recognized by AA. They forced me to exit through customs. Of course I didn't have the required form.. I then had to go to the AA desk and wait in line to get a new boarding pass and then re-enter through customs and security. I could not believe it. Luckily, I had a three hour layover so I didn't miss my flight.

Just a heads up.

...this is just another reason that I don't like American Airlines...Air China handled the overseas portion of my trip, with Virgin Air and American handling the domestic portion. AA blew big chunks.
