Anything you want back. They look at the original, then file your photocopy and give you the original back. They do not need multiple copies of anything so it's just so you can go home with your birth certificate, etc.

Things we wanted back--birth certificate, divorce decree, employer letter (not employed but a letter stating some regular income), police certificate (not sure if they will give that back but they gave ours back), investment account statement (which they handed back saying they didn't need to see that).

Things we didn't want back because we could print another off the computer--I-134, tax return (Turbo-Tax).

The reason for wanting the financial originals is because I wanted to re-used them for AOS. We mailed photocopies and held the originals for the interview. As it turned out, we didn't have to interview.

Thanks :) 1 more question that's playing on my mind now as I'm reading the embassy interview reviews on here. My fiancée (the us citizen) is divorced so do I need to have a copy of her divorce degree? I know I properly won't as she sent a copy in with the original file but just want to make sure.

I am the USC and nothing of mine went to the interview other than the I-134 with income proof. I was a widow so a death certificate, rather than a divorce decree, proved my marriage had ended. A photocopy was in the petition file and was not needed at the embassy. It was again required for the naturalization application...both of us had to prove previous marriages ended.
