Spinster affidavit

They were just giving you wahala. There is no such thing as a spinster affidavit in Nigeria. It isn't required or needed. They will have Americans run around chasing their tail to get all manner of documents and such that they know is not required. If you went to embassy they would laugh at you.

Honestly they wanted to see your tax papers to see how much money you make. It is a game they play to see your kidnapping worth. Just like the Nigerian embassy requesting some wanting to visi Nigeria to submit their bank statements. Really for what? It is not required or necessary.

Know your rights and don't play their game. I had to say something to this misinformation. Sorry they played you like that.

If anyone finds an issue at any registry on proving singleness go to another registry. It is not required. Go to the embassy and complain. Heck all you have to do is say "I will go to American Embassy" and you would be surprised how they back up their games.

Your passport and birth certificate is all that is required and needed.

Yes its a shame how they do people in the African countries when it comes to a American marrying over there, its all about money. In Kenya we were to put our marriage on 21 day notice so that way we did not have to pay for a special license. Weelll...guess what? They told us because we were an international {American marrying a Kenyan}, we had to pay for a special license anyway. BTW we checked all this out before we went but of course the story changed when I arrived. So yes money talks lol

The warmth of true friendship and the love that binds the hearts of husband and wife are a foretaste of heaven. God has ordained that there should be perfect love and perfect harmony between those who enter into the marriage relation. Let bride and bridegroom in the presence of the heavenly universe pledge themselves to love one another as God has ordained they should. {LYL}

Thought to share our journey for those who need the encouragement!

My husband had made all the inquiries and told the monies nice and normal. When I showed up. OMG everything quadrupled. I about had to call Obama. My husband had to walk me outside and calm me down. Here I bring the stupid, cookies and wine and juice you people ask for and you see me and instantly you see money I guess. Man that woman probably still feels my stink eye i was given her the whole time. hehe

I was just stating what I needed to have when I got married they wouldnt sign the wedding certificate unless I went to the embassy and had them notarize a statement from me stating I was single or give them a copy of my tax papers which I did but I also crossed out the income and taxes on the tax form I even crossed out my ss number and they accepted it cause it stated that i was filing single not married....So because I needed the wedding certificate signed to make it legal and not have the same problems I had in South Africa I gave them what they wanted.....This is only the experience I had and another american woman that was there at the same time to be married had to do the same..... I luckily had my taxes saved on my laptop so I just printed them out right there at the registry ....sorry for any misleading information Im posting on this site

Actually you are the one that is write Per the Nigerian marriage act

11. (1) The registrar, at any time after the expiration of twenty-one days and before the expiration of three months from the date of the notice, upon payment of the prescribed fee, shall thereupon issue his certificate as in Form C in the First Schedule:

Provided always that he shall not issue such certificate until he has been satisfied by affidavit-

(a) that one of the parties has been resident within the district in which the marriage is intended to be celebrated at least fifteen days preceding the granting of the certificate:

(b) that each of the parties to the intended marriage (not being a widower or widow) is twenty-one years old, or that if he or she is under that age, the consent hereinafter made requisite has been obtained in writing and is annexed to such affidavit;

© that there is not any impediment of kindred or affinity, or any other lawful hindrance to the marriage;

(d) that neither of the parties to the intended marriage is married by customary law to any person other than the person with whom such marriage is proposed to be contracted.

(2) Such affidavit may be sworn before a registrar, or before an administrative officer or before a recognised minister of religion.

(3) The person taking such affidavit shall explain to the person making the same what are the prohibited degrees of kindred and affinity, and the penalties which may be incurred under sections 42 and 43 of this Act, and if he wilfully fails to make such explanation, he shall be liable to imprisonment for two years.

(4) The person taking such affidavit shall sign a declaration written thereon, that he has given the explanation required by this section to the person making such affidavit and that such person has appeared fully to understand the same.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
