I've so much about those 3 packets and I still don't understand anything. So do people schedule theirvisa interview or the embassy schedule it for them through the PACKET 4? So after I get packet 3, Do i need to send papers to the embassy so they can send me a Packet 4? I'm from colombia, the embassy is the embassy in Bogota. Does this process varies depending on the embassy?

There is no "Packet 4" for the Bogota embassy. Packet 3 gets sent by email, as far as I know. It's a long list of instructions for the forms you need to fill out and what you need to take to the interview.

Once you get NOA2, then NVC sends the stuff to Bogota, then everything else goes to your husband. They called my wife by phone to verify her email, then sent it to her that same day. And then that was all there was, just had to attend the interview and done.

Yes, it does vary from consulate to consulate. And that info posted above from Nov. 2012 is very out of date. Those forms are not used any longer. The DS-160 replaced all the other DS forms on Oct. 7, 2013.

Packet 3 & 4 were sent out years ago by the US embassy in Bogotá to the beneficiary before the interview. The process has changed a few times and it is now called the "Appointment Package" or Interview Package". You get it via email from the embassy once they receive the case from the NVC but you can speed things along by downloading it from their web site: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/colombia/231771/PDFs/iv-pkt3-4inst-interview-medical-exam-nov2013.pdf

Follow the instructions listed on the package and you should be fine.

CR/IR visas follow a different process than K visas because the NVC processes everything and schedules the appointment with the embassy and all the beneficiary has to do is get the lab and medical tests done before the interview.

If you're still waiting for the USCIS to approve your I-130, you can start reading the EZSpouseGuide which will show you how the NVC process works.

Those instructions are not for a K-1 though. It says to fill out a DS-260 in those instructions, which is what those applying for a CR-1 would fill out. A K-1 applicant does not use that form. They fill out the DS-160.

That's correct, however, that 's the packet the embassy sends out, unless they recently changed it. It doesn't matter though because as soon as you go to the first link to register for visa delivery with DHL you find the instructions for K1 visas and how they only need online form DS-160. It's all there.

In the meantime, applicants can start gathering the listed documents, make the doctor's appointment for their physical and get their lab work taken care of. If they wait for the embassy to take the lead in contacting them and sending them the same instructions, via email or snail mail, they'll be waiting a while.

Ahh, I see. A tad confusing not to at least list on the instruction 'packet; from them that for the K-1 it is the DS-160 instead. Good to know the K-1 instructions are found at the website you need to go to though. Hope the OP and others to follow that will go through Bogota find this thread helpful.
