No CC permits and no out of state licenses are recognized. Maybe it was due to not reporting the carnage happening.

Me too, I'm sure there IS a reason for the drop. Well something other than CC permits, because WE KNOW those weren't allowed.

It could be. Maybe folks decided enough was enough.

Maybe the expectation of getting CC in future made all wait so a more level playing field.

Ah yes, folks may be "getting their act together" in order to prepare for the coming of the prepared citizen. Of course, this is all speculation that you and I are having and I believe we have quantified it as such. Nothing wrong with speculation for discussion until it is presented as something more than speculation.

True it is speculation and since NO links were used we can't be sure.

And "See? Crime is down!" links aren't proof that CC is the cause of the decrease. That seems to be confusing to some.

There is nothing wrong with saying "I think CC will lower crime"

There is something wrong with saying "CC has lowered crime", especially in states that didn't allow it during the discussed time period, and without any actual proof.

It seems this thread has run its course.

CC has nothing to do with the decrease in crime in 2013.

To imply or state otherwise is an outright lie and deliberate fabrication.

Glad spooks was around so we could get that covered.

As along as its also recognized that there is no evidence CC increases crime. With the knowledge in hand that its at most neutral, I don't see where the argument is in fighting against people's rights to self defence with a firearm. (Please note I'm not saying you or anyone else is or has brought such an argument into the thread, any other thread, or your personal offline discussion, nor do I imply that anyone in this thread or any other thread is against the 2nd amendment, firearms, or self defense....end disclaimer)

It doesn't. Not in Illinois, anyway, which is the topic of conversation.

The topic of conversation is that some people are going around crediting CC with a decrease in crime in an area that until about a month ago didn't have CC implemented.

IMO, Illinois will be interesting to watch. Since it's the last state to implement CC, we can see what if any effect it has either way on the crime rate. I'm guessing that it's NOT going to turn into the Old West like some seem to think as that hasn't happened anywhere when CC was implemented to the best of my knowledge. Perhaps the crime rate will continue to go down as it did in 2013 and CC will play a minor or no part at all. Even if it goes up, it will remain to be determined if if was due to CC or not. I know one thing, the bad guys have had guns here and illegally carried while the law abiding citizen did not have the right to do so and didn't do so because it was illegal. The bad guys don't care about the law. Time will tell how things go here, especially in Chicago.
