Geezers, I need tax advice.

Hubby and I filed jointly in January online, everythung went fine, and we got a reasonable refund considering we only worked a few months last year. Also, since we paid out of state fees for hubby's tuition, we got the refundable education credit, and that returned a good portion of the money we paid to the college. Just checked the IRS website, and it says they decided to deny the REC because I could be claimed as a dependant on someone else's return? Really confused, considering I'm pretty positive I can't, and also disappointed because that cuts our refund in half. We don't desperately need the money, but it would have helped out with hubby's medical debt.

Just wondering, do you guys think it's worth trying to get this sorted out, or should I just take what I get and be content? This is the first year I've had to file taxes, I really don't have much of a clue about this #######, and I've heard the IRS hotline can be a huge PITA... I don't even know how I could go about fixing the problem, or proving I can't be claimed as a dependant on either parent's return. sad.png Help, please.

Did you live with either parent for more than 6 months and did they provide more than half your support?

I had to take my youngest to the doctor once when she needed some shots. I was thinking getting shots was going to be the issue where she might get difficult. Nope she took them like a champ, not even flinching. Then they needed to take some blood for a work up, OMG you wouldn't believe the fuss that was. Kicking and thrashing there was no way to get the blood. It appears her older sister's teenage friends had filled her with horror stories about taking blood samples. headbonk.gif

When we had to get a blood sample from the little one in the hospital, they had a childhood specialist come in with games and books and to explain it to her....that and the Dane, me, and two nurses to hold her down.

I can only think of a few ways in which this day could get worse. Thankfully there is always tomorrow.

There's got to be a story behind this.

Hopefully its not too bad.

Has one of your parents been claiming you as a dependent or did you check off the wrong box?

No, neither did. I scoured our return looking for a possible mistake and couldn't find any glaring error. It kind of looks like I'll just have to call to find out ####### the problem is... grrr.

Did you live with either parent for more than 6 months and did they provide more than half your support?

No, and no. I do live with my parents, but I didn't live with either one for more than 6 months, and they definitely didn't provide for half my support. We pay all our own bills, food, gas, etc - the only thing they give us is a place to put our bed to sleep, basically.

I can give you a hug this morning and it will start your day off right.

I had this one in Denmark and I liked it, but it isn't a traditional wok per se. The one I bought 6 years ago at Ikea here they don't sell anymore, but it is ok.

Boo! BOO! Get off the frakkin' stage!

Also.. this forum is wonky. It kept telling me I couldn't view it. For a second, I thought I was rounded up as some kind of revolutionary leader and shot, metaphorically speaking.

Though I've done nothing compared to the PCR crowd. They're having a field day, and too right at that.

I learned how to wok a dog in asia. But why do I need to wok on my cooking,I have a wife to do that?

I have only one aluminum pan in my home, and thats for cooking dried fish on the grill, something which gets pretty grimy and I may just want to throw away every few years.
