USCIS received your application on Feb 28 and you had your biometrics on Mar 6? That's in 6 days from receipt? That sounds faster than any other person's application I've seen.

So happy! My EAD just changed to "Card Production" :)

My AOS however has been in "RFE Response Review" since March 31. I'm wondering if it's normal to get the EAD before the AOS changes to "Testing and Interview"? I see a lot of other people in here who've also filed from Boston with interview dates.

Good luck to everyone!

Very normal, the EAD/AP are designed to enable you to travel and work while an AOS is processing, in limbo, in RFE review, etc. And, congrats!

Yes my biometrics were Thursday March 6th.. maybe it had something to do with how fast my local field office (Atlanta, GA) hands out the appointments? I don't know.

Hey y'all.

Just thought I would post a little EAD related snippet that I received from my USCIS field office yesterday (I had a chatty immigration officer ;).

I made an infopass appointment for yesterday morning in Tucson because I received an email from USCIS updating me on my pending EAD application, which has been sitting in Initial review since Feb. 6. The email basically said that my background check was not yet complete and if I don't hear anything in the next 6 months to call in and get an update. This made me LOL initially as I have my AOS interview next week - but then I kinda panicked because if the background hasn't been done will they put me in admin. processing after my interview pending the results??

(side note: I received my AP docs already - separate from the EAD obviously).

Anyway, when I spoke with the officer yesterday she said there is a growing trend among AOS applications that if the applicant is selected for an interview (as opposed to getting waived), they are getting their PR before they receive their work permits. This is because they have gotten more efficient at processing the I-485s and that the EAD background checks are getting held up at the FBI for whatever internal reason that has nothing to do with the applicant. Further, the background checks that they do for the work authorization have ZERO to do with your AOS app. ZERO :wow: . She shared with me that in a nutshell, even though you file all your applications concurrently, they are uncoupled from each other when they are received and treated independently - It just so happens that my AOS app is proceeding along faster than my EAD. She told me not to read anything into this, it's just administrative circumstance.

So, don't panic if your EAD hasn't moved but your AOS has. If you have a job offer pending or you can prove that not having the EAD is causing you significant financial hardship you can make an infopass appointment, plead your case and beg for them to grant you interim EAD but if you have a scheduled AOS interview you may as well wait it out for just a little longer.

Hope this gives those waiting on EAD some comfort.

On an unrelated but kinda neat side note: I filed my K-1 petition on April 30th of 2013 and my AOS interview is on April 30th of this year :P

Fascinating post. Thank you for sharing.

Just curious -- did you receive the EAD email from USCIS with the information about your background check being delayed as a response to an inquiry or did you just get the email automatically?

I inquired and had them put in a service ticket for my I-765. When I went to my infopass appointment yesterday the IO confirmed that my status was listed in her system as "background holding".
