Ok... Need some help here please from fellow NSC-ers or filers .. I 'think' out I-130 petition is approved. Got an email about 10 hours ago that says that but our online status still shows that we are in initial review. Has anyone been in this kind of pickle. I don't know whether I should celebrate or not .. Please help.thanks in advance .

Saylin says to start calling after a couple of weeks, but they are pretty backlogged so I am giving it a month, and then if I don't here anything I will start calling. I am going on a holiday anyway and I am still waiting on a document. Hopefully the process will be moving for me by end September.. :)

Have you read the guides and wikis on the NVC process? Saylin tells you everything you need to know there. Just remember that times will be a little longer because of the recent delays and backlogs.

I've been reading most of it, so yes, I feel I've got all they need :D

As of today i joined the 6 month club. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what would make uscis put a case through extended review? long story short my wife was in the us as a child, left at 18 and got a 3 year ban. Already completed the ban, she has proof she stayed in her country the whole time...

I've submitted an e request and we should get a response by 9/2. In case we are not approved by then, what other actions can i take? I do have a USCIS office nearby in Santa Ana, CA. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks and God Bless you all with approvals!!

Hey there faith,

My wife was deported as well on her 18th birthday pretty much. She was sentenced a 5 year ban(I have never heard of a 3 year ban - there is 5,10, or 20). We are slowly getting out of the 6th month club and making our way to the 7th month. I am pretty sure as well, it is why it took us a bit longer because of her past mistakes as a minor.

Anyways, USCIS has told me her security/background checks she has passed and now they're going through the box we sent, this is the last update I received which is when I called USCIS last Monday. They did say I should be getting a NOA(RFE/NOA2/APPROVE/DENY) within the next 2 weeks since my case was at the CSC(California Service Center).

There is two things you can do -

1) Call USCIS and speak to a tier 2 operator. These guys know when your case has been accessed last, and can tell you a lot less vague answer on what is going on.

2) Make an INFOPASS appointment. These guys have the same information a tier 2 operator goes, but, from my Senator friend - an INFOPASS appointment during the I130 process is logged on their case files, and helps support that your marriage is indeed bonafide since you physically went to ask about your spouse. It looks very good to the US government.

Other than that, sit back, open up some whiskey(my preference) - find a hobby - maybe even work harder/overtime and save up money to see your SO. As I have told my wife/family, I live on the bible belt where there is a ton of hate for immigrants. I damn well know why people decide to come to this country illegally rather than legally. My wife and I are on month 7 in a few weeks, and at the same time the NVC process is taking around 4-5 months. 1 year of being apart from your family is expected for us who have not yet gotten our NOA2s.

Hi red_tree

We got I 130 Approved on the same day, been calling NVC almost everyday, but they still did not receive anything, let alone assigning a case number.

Did you call USCIS to know it was sent to NVC on Aug 14th ? or did you receive any email ?

Not sure which of the two is better USCIS or NVC, USCIS at-least had a website you can check status. For NVC, they keep you on hold at least 45 minutes before someone speaks . :)

No I didn't call to NVC.

You can know that USCIS sent your package to NVC from https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do

It says "On August 14, 2014, we shipped this approved or re-affirmed case to the Department of State for visa processing. For more information, please contact them directly." about my case.

I think this it the final update of USCIS.

I have currently no idea if our package has already been received by some person in NVC, or just stacked in their letter box...

There's no way to shorten our processing time, so I'll wait until I find myself out of "average cases".

hi red_tree,

how long after 'post decision activity' status on the USCIS case status, can you see the statement regarding the shipping to NVC?

I just got my case case status change from 'initial review' to 'post decision activity'.

because this is what it says now :

Post Decision Activity

On August 25, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.

Did you get another update after something like this or did the 'shipping...' status is your first /last status . thanks in advance!

No I didn't call to NVC.
