Thanks 'mrs tha' . Really appreciate it..

But I think we need to submit the originals to NVC so I was thinking of bringing them with me. ( I.e Marraige Certificate , Divorce Decree, Police Certificate , Birth Certificate etc.) .

you are correct you do need submit originals if using mail. using EP you do not, they are given at the interview.

you are welcome to travel with your originals when you visit your wife but you might not have a case number assigned and in the system by the time you leave India. what I am saying is you don't want to lose any of these very important papers while travelling and you may not even able to do anything while visiting her other than get your papers organized. may I suggest you look at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/503660-nvc-filers-july-2014/ and follow the timelines of others that are in the nvc process to get a feel for the wait time.

there are a series of steps that need to be followed before both packages can be submitted and my understanding is first you pay the AOS bill, wait for your account to show paid, then submit the 186 then you wait for the IV bill, pay that and wait for that to show paid and then submit the forms for this. these forms are not something to be rushed as the NVC is particular on how they are completed.

hope this helps.

When will my case number be available? And can I still get the update from the ucis case number websit?

your case number becomes available via the NVC after you get the NOA2 from USCIS.

people are saying its approx 4-6 weeks now (for a case number to be assigned) after receiving notice electronically from USCIS that NOA2 approved.

So I won't need to call NSC to get the number then?

NSC does not assign case numbers. USCIS does not give case numbers. NVC does. You need a case number to begin processing NVC paperwork.

Once USCIS emails/texts/mails you notification that your ir1/cr1 application has been approved (NOA2) it sends your file off to NVC. About 4 weeks later NVC assigns a case number to you and this is how you begin the NVC process (paying bills and submitting paperwork).

You can call the NVC for a case number but from what I understand it doesn't help much because you have to wait for the number to be placed into their system before you can proceed with anything. Your hands are tied until you get notice from NVC that you're ready to roll.

Read up on the process....there's lots of know, here's a link.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/503660-nvc-filers-july-2014/

Good luck.

That is so unreliable that I completely stopped following it, it just kept making me mad...

likewise.....

both uscis and vj timelines are outdated or off.

I'm following igor's list but not placing too much emphasis on it as it's just a snapshot of the load at USCIS.

But, people in January are getting approved so there's hope for us!!
